Vortech filled with grease?

What are thoughts on filling my vortech supercharger with grease instead of pumping oil.

Re: Vortech filled with grease?

i would say that would be a bad idea, it may not be as viscous as the reccommended oil and may also be too thick to allow the gears to turn properly. also, unless its a self contained unit, it uses engine oil for lubrication

Re: Vortech filled with grease?

Hello,

All Vortech's use engine oil injection - any thing else and you will burn up the drive gears as the smaller gear turns at around 20K rpm at times.

It's easy to use an oil filter sandwich plate with taps for oil supply. Run an oil line from the sandwich plate to the oil injector on the side of the blower - I seem to remember that the oil injection fittings are -4 an, and the oil return are -8 an. Out of the bottom of the supercharger run an oil return line back to the pan. There are several companies that make an adapter to mount to the pan for an oil return port.

Have pfunn,

Ed.

Not to mention it uses the oil to cool the unit, and thats constantly refreshed by the engine. Put anything else non-moving in there and you'll just burn it up.

Re: Vortech filled with grease?

There was one turbo designed as oil-less. It was made by Aerodyne. It didn't last. An SC or TC needs a constant fresh supply of oil.
