Reusing old Nitrous System

So the kid got himself his first car last month, a '90 RS w/ a 305 tbi. I went snooping around in storage and found my box of goodies from when I used to play with third gens, and found most of my NOS fogger in there. It looks a little rough but beggars can't be choosers. My only real concern about the kit is the solinoids. They saw about 80,000 miles and a couple dozen bottles on my old '92, and have been sitting in storage since then for about 7 years. Would they go bad sitting around, or is there a way to test them before we put them on the car?

Hook up power and see if they open and close.

You can hook them up and spray them if you'de like, just fire the nozzle into an empty gas can or outside into the air, that'll verify if they leak, and that both of them are flowing and closing properly. If something does turn out wrong (dry rotted seal is about the only thing that could happen and probably didn't) you can buy a rebuild kit for the solenoids, you can get the coils or the seals separate.

Re: Reusing old Nitrous System

Thanks for the help guys. We're not putting it on right now, too many other things that need to be addressed first. I just wanted to know what we were getting into in advance. Besides, this kit on a stock 305 really dosn't put down much more power than my Supercoupe . On the other hand, unlike forced induction (My prefered power adder) I can always threaten to pull the bottle if he acts up

Re: Reusing old Nitrous System

you make a good point plus he should use it more conservativaley(Sp?) if he has to pay for the refills. but itll work fine i did the same thing on the same motor with a few bolt ons and went 13.5 so itll make some decent power.
