how much power is safe?
i thought that this would be the most appropriate place to post this seeing that you guys probably have the mot experience with hp on the site
how much power can i run through a 355 2bolt 1 piece rear main probably out of an 87-95 truck assuming i have the stock crank and rods probably less than 20k on the rebuild and never pushed over 300hp ever it was a tpi too so it didn't rev very far either thanks for reading

Re: how much power is safe?
450 if you had ARP hardware all doy.I am running a 2 bolt 89 350 with a 383 assembly. It has stock rods with ARP bolts. I spin it all day to 6200 and i pull LS1s easily with a 2.73 gear. I still need bigger headers and put my better carb on too. I beat the hell out of it.
Re: how much power is safe?
I've seen two bolts pushed to 700hp, with a stock bottom end. but thoughare rare and don't last very long, but id agree that 450-500 is about the limit of a stock bottom end. the only thing is (ive been told by a guy who builds pro mod motors) that those one piece rear mains can only hold about 300, then they start blowing seals all the time

Re: how much power is safe?
Strange, my 1 piece rear main seal is still in after 4 years. I run a 2 bolt main but with ARP studs, GM steel crank and eagle h-beam rods. It's been spun to 7500 rpm a few times against the rev limiter messing around and usually shift around 7000 rpm.

Re: how much power is safe?
Man stop posting that, ive seen you mention that your 300hp car is whooping on LS1's and killing them, in like 3 or 4 threads on here. That was an LT1 or something. THeres no way you could beat a 390 hp LS1 camaro, which by the way is a much better tuned and a better geared car than yours. Im not trying to hate , but damn man, you sound so rediculous saying that your destroying LS1's. Your 2.73 gears and a 300hp motor isnt going to come anywhere close. An LS1 makes 305 - 315hp at the WHEELS

Re: how much power is safe?
Sorry buddy, i never said i was making 300 HP. Then engine i built with the parts i used is in the 450+ range.
LS1s make 290-350 rear whp. Some are freaks.
PLEASE show me 4 threads i mentioned "Hey guys, i have 300 HP"
Sorry you are confused.

Re: how much power is safe?
If the motor is Naturally Aspirated i would say 450wrhp is doable with good hardware (as mentioned above). However the limiting factor is the stock crank and rods, not the mains. A guy on turbomustangs.com is making clost to 1100 whp on a stock 2 bolt main 400 block. That is with good internals though.
And zone89rs, whats your combo that makes 450whp?

Re: how much power is safe?
I built it to be 450ish at the crank, so it is maybe a little more.
That is right, the guy i am talking about is over 700 though right?

Re: how much power is safe?
This is what i was replying to, you get it? If seals blow above 300hp and mine is fine, then i must be making less than 300 hp? Hope this helps and sorry for the confusion.

Re: how much power is safe?
The amount of "power" a stock block/lower end can withstand depends greatly on how you are developing that "power" and how you are using it. Supercharging, Nitrous and flat out Compression all put different stresses on the lower end. RPM range is also a big factor and differs greatly with how you are making "power" so in the long run this question has many answers depending on your set up.

Re: how much power is safe?
well right now i am just looking for the best options i am running 58cc heads on a 355 so that is 12.5:1 compression that is high for a turbo motor i was thinking about running small turbos at an extremely low boost like 3-4 psi that would give me a flat power curve that would pull all day tell me if i am horribly mistaken i very well may be as i haven't read any of the turbo books i basically want to be able to toast my friends 300xz tt making 550 crank hp but you have to remember that thing is about 400 pounds heavier and has IRS
ill need a t56 and gears and ill have to loose just a little more weight but let me know how you think i should get there the point is obviously to spend less than he does but i paid $400 for the car that came with the lg4 700r4 set up and a 355 t5 tpi but i sold the tpi for parts money
i installed the 355 and t5 though
i have a little story for you guys the first day i drove my bird i went down to this gas station were there were about 5 guys with 99+ mustangs everything from a stock 4.6 to a 03 cobra and they were all checking out my striped down bird thats the kind of feeling i want all the time
