LT1 upgrades

What are some fairly priced ways to upgrade an LT1?

(besides nitrous or a blower, or turbo)

Would headers, a bigger throttle body...etc really make a difference? and what are some other mods that can be done to truly inprove performance and HP?

Re: LT1 unpgrades

Just about like any other engine, ported heads and a cam can make some serious power. If you really got money to spend, the AFR 227 LT4 Heads and a converted Single Plane intake, on a 383 LT1 could get over 500 HP to the wheels.

Headers and a tune might make a little difference on a stock LT1. A larger throttle body on a stock LT1 has actually been said to lower horsepower or at least have no effect.

Re: LT1 unpgrades

ok ok cool..

really bigger TB can hurt HP huh? thats crazy.

um what about intake mods? such as runners? or anything else. im not too familiar with the intake system on LT1s but i always thought it was pretty much the same as TPI?

What about cold air? does that really even do much?

The reason im curious on mods is because im very very close to buying a 93 formula vert.

It runs perfect but, like anything, it wouldnt hurt to give it a lil extra.

It will cause turbulence, you'd need to port match the the throttle body to the orifice of the plenum. Aside from that, it doesn't really cause too much of an issue, as the intake ports as well as the cylinder heads dictate how much air is allowed into the combustion chambers. Just because a larger throttle body is added doesn't necessarily mean that more air is entering in, it's really the velocity (speed) of the air that becomes effected....

Although the principle behind any engine configuration is the same, the two setups are very different from one another....

Yes. Cold air is much more denser than hot air....
