Performance Chips really work???

Does these work because adding 1/2sec to 0-60 and 2.5 car lengths is pretty good for just adding a chip

I've read on here that these chips most of the time just put more gas at lower throttle. Also seems that it is a better investment to get prom burning equipment and burn your own chips
