I am dumping off my Silverado SS soon, and will be shopping for an L98 GTA.
Is it safe to S/C a stock L98? How much boost can it safely handle? How hard to tune? What kind of power could I expect at "safe" levels of boost?
Whats the best (cheapest) kit for these cars?
I did read through several pages in this forum, alot of the posts seemed tom be for modded/bigger motors, so sorry if these questions are redundant.

You could ditch the TPI and go carbed with a roots style supercharger. That would only cost you about $2000

You can run all kinds of boost, but you need to keep the IATs low and retard the timing and run higher octane. That is, 20 PSI will work if you have it tuned right with the correct fuel and air intake cooling. 10 PSI is fine with lesser fuel and less IAT cooling.Originally Posted by NBMIROC

Cheapest way is to piece together and fab. a turbo kit. Quickest is to buy an off-the-shelf supercharger kit.
When I said cheap, its all relative. I'd heard anywhere from $3000 to $5000 for these cars. The cheapest thing for my trucks is the Radix, which goes for close to $6000.

don't forget what it will cost to tune it properly guess around 500-600 plus fuel system up grades i believe later tpi engines had map instead of maf there may be an advantage there one way or the other on a boosted engine.
