Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SBC-C...pagenameZWDVW#

I know of the SSAC quality concerns but lets put those aside for now. What I am concerned about is fitment. I read a thread on here earlier about a company on ebay that ripped off the BBS Designs single turbo kit. From memory, this ebay kit looks very similar.

Has anyone tried this setup yet? If it fits good I am buying it for my 91. I am not worried about quality. For the price I can have braces added where needed or even have a copy made from mild steel for better life. I am ONLY worried about fitment.

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

installed an ebay kit on a 02 corvette fitment was nice, apperance was nice, qty,????, the only thing i have to say is that the customer, asked us to install a complete turbo kit and it was far from complete, no acc. brackets or where to relocate stufff to, we just tore the car apart installed the kit, then made custom everything to fit.

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

I am in the process of buliding my own set now and just remember it only takes a inch to ruin your day especially if it is in contact with the a/c box or valve cover. If the quality control isnt good it can very set to set. I almost got that set for 210 but decided I can do what I want if I do it myself. They are under the post this is what I have so far for custom single turbo headers. Check them out.

Thanks for the replies so far. Anyone else think just by looking that these might not fit? If I don't hear a good reason why I shouldn't buy them, I will pick them up and give them a try.

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

^ Why not try reaching out to some of the fella's who actually bought them and left him feedback, see if they had any fitment issues, and how they are holding up to date. Nobody here bought them, so your only going to get speculation here....

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

would be better if mild steel so repair would be easy or if you need to change something. stainless is hard to weld with out a tig. can stick weld but sooo hard

Thats a copy of the BBS single turbo system.

There are someguys here running with that design, but they are made my BBS and not SSAutochrome. Search for BBS or SSAutochrome and you will find info.

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

I bought them a while ago when BBS was not producing headers. Its on my project camaro that sits in the garage so its not close to running. The flanges were thick and pretty straight, the welds look good however they definately need some additional bracing because of the thin tubing. My only fitment issue was with the bottom crossover tube. The one side is supposed to slide into the other but the female end wasn't quite round.

Did you get the cross over pipe to clear the starter? From what I have seen the crossover pipe is up against the starter. Are you sure that it won't slide together because it isn't quite round or the angles are off for the male and female ends? I think the angles are off a little. I had to cut and re-weld the cross over pieces to clear the starter and slide together properly, and fit/seal properly at the flange on the driver's side.

Search ebay for "single turbo chevy" and it will bring up about 10-20 hits all from ssautochrome.

Pic of the mods for clearing the starter.
Notice the Cyl #2 pipe mod and WG placement.
Notice custom low mount alternator bracket to clear T4 comp. housing.

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

Couldn't you buy the kit on ebay and the BBS headers, wouldn't it still be cheaper than a whole BBS turbo design? I don't know what a BBS design goes for but I image around maybe 4k-5k. I never saw an intercooler with them either. Without an intercooler, you make very tiny power.

BBS doesn't sell a kit. You can piece together a kit. Thanks for the tip on not using intercoolers. What is tiny power...........is that more power than no turbo at all?

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

hehe, tiny power. I guess my sled doesnt make any power then... I dont have an intercooler on it and my IATs are only safe up to about 15psi on a -10*c day... (350hp+)...

Im sure we all know what your talking about though... Of course a guy cant run with the thing flat out all day at 30psi+, but im sure alot of guys will get a decent hardon with a couple pounds of boost which is safe all day!

Re: Yet another Ebay turbo question (Not the normal one)

I have purchased SSautochrome stuff before. The exhaust I put on my wrx lasted about 1 1/2 years before it was junk. I have a bbs header and I would have to say this header will out last the car. It strong and vary clean. I would not count on the ebay header to last long.

My crossover does clear barely but I have a mini-starter. My pipes angles seem to line up just fine the one side is just slightly oval so they won't slide together. Overall these headers can be made to work but just don't expect them to be an easy bolt on.
