Re: Another octane question

do it how it should be done.. mix in race fuel.. you dont want anymore chemicals/contaminants in your fuel system.. depending on what your need, you shouldnt need more than 50% race.. 25% race/75% pump is a good ratio using 110 race..

Pee in the tank. Urine has a really high octane rating.

Re: Another octane question

I've heard that if you mix leaded and unleaded fuel, it will raise the octane 2-3 points. But first you have to find leaded fuel.......I think it would be easier just to get some good old fashon octane booster.

MAKE YOUR OWN OCTANE BOOST

How to make your own octane booster (this is the basic formula of one of the popular octane booster products). To make eight 16 ounce bottles (128 oz = 1 gal):

100 oz of toulene for octane boost
25 oz of mineral spirits (cleaning agent)
3 oz of transmission fluid (lubricating agent)

This product is advertised as "octane booster with cleaning agent *and* lubricating agent!". Diesel fuel or kerosene can be substituted for mineral spirits and light turbine oil can be substituted for transmission fluid. Color can be added with petroleum dyes.

92 octane
isopropyl alc. %10-94.5
toulene %30-98.6

Toulene isnt cheap anymore. Been deemed very hazardous. I looked into it, but not really worth it. If you want cheap, high octane, go with E85.

Check it out, www.gnttype.org/techarea/misc/octanebooster.html . Formulas for what you want to know. I have been using Xylene(on race day) in varying amounts with no ill effects on my engine or fuel system etc. Just be careful, it is real nasty type stuff. Dont inhale, spill on your paint, etc.

Yeah that is some nasty stuff, i use to work with that and MEK (Methol Etehol Ketone) when i was in louisiana but i didnt know it can be use as a booster, hell i would have got a 55 gallon drum.

Re: Another octane question

I looked up the price of toluene at the hardware store a couple months ago, and IIRC, it was around 15 bucks a gallon.

You'd be spending almost 15 dollars more for 10 gallons of 100 octane fuel, than mix 93 and 111.

I'll have to look again and look up xylene. MTBE seems impossible to find.

E85 is a much better route, if you can get it.
