Can someone explain...

Can someone explain turbocharger "Jargon" to me?
What is an inducer?
Why different size Cold side/hot side?
What is the difference in housings? EX: t-4 etc...
Just trying to learn here.
I need to purchase another turbo in the next two weeks for my rear-mount I'm building (See my other post on this board" Turbocharging my 383 T/A..")
Thanks, in advance for your patience, I'm a noob.

Re: Can someone explain...

1) Inducer is where things get sucked or pushed in. Cold side sucks, hot side pushes.
2) Cold air is more dense than hot air
3) The size of the comp housing, center section, and turbine vary vs. the T-series frame

The GN calculator that I posted a link to in various threads here will tell you which compressor and turbine you need when using the comp. and turbine maps at turbobygarrett.com

Thank you, junkcltr! I see lots of stuff that will say t-4 flange etc. Also, I havent found a site for plumbing, etc. I will check out the calculator and see what I can come up with.

Re: Can someone explain...

T4 flange means that the turbo is a T4 frame. The turbine inducer has T4 flange dimensions.

If someone said that they had a turbo with a 1.0 A/R turbine, then one would ask what frame is it. A T4 frame would flow more exhaust than a T3 frame turbo even though both have the same turbine A/R. The turbine inducer inlet is larger (Larger A of the A/R) for the T4 frame.
