welding on the blower pulley?

Is there any reason that I should not just cut the center out of the blower pully and weld it onto an aluminium crank pulley?

The question is why would you want to?

Re: welding on the blower pulley?

Good question. This is going on a big block Buick (462) No one makes a pulley for them. I have an ATI blower pulley for an LT1 and an Aluminium crank pulley for the Buick. Looks the blower pulley could be welded onto the crank pulley. Seems to me if it was centered and welded properly it could be welded together. Just wonderd if there are any possible problems I am missing.

Re: welding on the blower pulley?

So you're not talking about cutting out the center of the blower pulley itself, you're talking about cutting the center out of the blower DRIVE (crank) pulley?

Re: welding on the blower pulley?

damn... i would say that can be done but centering that will be vital and seriously difficult. sucks that they don't make one for your application.

Re: welding on the blower pulley?

Look at this pic. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...p-dsc02180.jpg

You will see that the blower pulley is held on to the belt pulley with a c-clamp. This was just to get an idea of where things could be. The position that the blower pulley is in is just about perfect. So instead of paying someone to make a whole custom pulley $$$$ I was thinking of just cutting the center out and welding to common aluminium crank pulley set. Then it would bolt on like it was stock.

Here is a side view. https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/atta...mockup-two.jpg Maybe just leave the c-clamp on, would it be out of balance

Re: welding on the blower pulley?

Ya it could be done. Triple check and make sure everything lines up. etc
Id wait to do it last. AFTER you have your brackets make and in place etc.

Whats that LT1 with greentops? 42#ers? Prob.. another nice project.

Re: welding on the blower pulley?

I appreciate the feedback. There are only a few people in the Buick community doing Prochargers. Everyone here has been a great help and I will keep you updated.

As far as the LT1 stuff I am going to be selling a lot of good parts soon. Do not have the time or energy to add another project car!
