what is needed to run a turbo on a bone stock 350 iroc

i have a bone stock 350, 5.7L in a 87 iroc. i have been thinking of going charged for a long time but it is seeming to me that boosting is the way to go to produce some serious hp's. well if any one could tell me what i need to know would be very helpful. cause i need to know were to start

"Charged" and "boosting" are the same thing. Both refer to pressurized air.

Go to www.theturboforums.com and look under the knowledge base. They have very well written articles there for people new to super/turbocharging engines.

Re: what is needed to run a turbo on a bone stock 350 iroc

ok sorry for the miss understanding. i have been leaning for the super charger. but now i see that the way to go is to go with a turbo to produce high hp with out going with a aftermarket block. i am leaning into getting around 600 hp. i need to know were to start. and what items i should buy to make my block be able to hold the forced air. and my 350 is carbed so any advice will be helpful

Dont need a turbo to do that, either way is fine. Superchargers are nice because there are kits available. Turbos have no kit for these cars so you will have to do everything yourself or pay for it. If you can fab, you can build a turbo setup for cheaper than supercharger kits, else find a supercharger head unit and bracket and do the rest of the piping and etc yourself

block needs forged internals, lower compression and abit wider ring gap. 4 bolt mains, preferably splayed but for 600hp you dont need to worry about it. 4 bolt is good enough.

Blow through designed carb and carb bonnet is a start. Go witha single plane intake, get a mild cam to match the setup and throw 8 psi on it with good heads and you'll have your 600 hp. 600 at the tires?? throw 13-14 psi and you'll have it

so basicly ur saying going with a super charger is the way to go. less work and still good power. i understand the cam and headers and pistons and rods. but who makes a good blown through carb that u would recamend.

Just saying, you make it sound like superchargers are not the way to go and they will work fine for what you have in mind. I like turbos but keep in mind they do create alot of heat so you have to pay attention to where you put the turbo and what is around it. Simple heat shielding can easily protect most things.

I'm not a carb guy but on the turboforums you can find some good info on blow through carbs
