Just curious

I have seen folks talking about turbocharging their sbc f bodies, and am curious about it. I have just about finished my 350 build, and as all of us have most likely done, I am standing back looking at it wondering what else I might do to get a bit more out of it. I have only seen picture of the turbo's on the sbc, and havent really read any thing on it so I would like to ask a few questions. From what I have seen in the pictures, it looks like the turbo is run off of a header..both if twin turbos are used. The turbo looks as if it is mounted in front to pull in air, and the outlet is mounted on top of the carb. I havent seen it, but it seems there must be a wastegate somewhere, and an intercooler. I guess my first question would be.. does it work with a carb'd engine, what if any electronics have to be put in place? I dont pretend to know anything about a turbocharger, and im just being curious. Can any turbo be modified to work with a sbc? For instance.. could i take a oem turbo from say any old v-6 car, or turbo diesel truck, and pretty much slap it together? I dont think a turbo is something I would consider, but then again if it were an easy enough mod I cant say id rule it out.

Re: Just curious

There is a lot more to turbo charging then just bolting on. I have seen it on carbed motors but what compression is your your motor at? There is a wealth of information on the next I would just Google it and start reading that way you can learn all there is to know. I like the idea though I think the twin turbo kit is awesome just gets a little tight in there.

Oh im sure there is more to it than bolting it on. Im just a bit curious about it. If superchargers were a bit more reasonably priced id go that route. I suppose I was having a moment of Tim THE TOOLMAN SYNDROME...MORE POWER. I will do fine with what I have. Perhaps a little cheater bottle may be in the works.

This is a Power Adder topic, not Engine Swap.
