Re: ebay turbo kit

I have always wondered about these kits too for my L98. Its not like you would be running alot of boost anyways, maybe 7-9 PSI on a stock engine. For $850 surely this kit is not of the best quality materials, but I think for a beginner short on funds you could buy one of these kits and upgrade the turbo, blow off valve, etc to quality name brand components later as your budget allows. I would be very interested in purchasing this as well if that is the case. Hopefully someone could chime in and explain if these kits are even good for that, and how hard the install would be for a beginner. I was going to ask too, how would one go about installing a turbo on a MAF TPI car?

Re: ebay turbo kit

Doesnt work... passenger side header comes in contact with spark plugs. Also the crossover does fit right.... saw all this in another post. better off getting twin turbo headers and making ur own crossover/merge pipe for turbo

Re: ebay turbo kit

yeah i bought the same header kit and was trash, i ended up making my own, its a knock off version of the BBSdesign style, it would work ok if you had angle plugs heads i guess but wont fit with tall valve covers, when i got my headers the flanges were wrapped and hat to mill them to make them straight. crossover pipe was way off place and couldt even fit one of the bolts in the crossover to driver header flanges, dont waste your money this is not even a 82-92 kit , there is no such thing as a kit of our cars, thats just a sbc header kit that doesnt fit and aluminum mandrel bent pipes and a turbo, by the time you are done modifyin it u couldve made your own

Re: ebay turbo kit

you cant use a $80. holley blue pump or equivilant. you need a good $300. pump a $200. regulator and a $350. ignition box and another $200. ign box that progressively pulls out timing as boost increases

Re: ebay turbo kit

you don't necessary need to pull timing with boost if you have a way of getting an appropriate timing curve (chip burning...) or in some cases just lock out the timing and don't worry about it.

You also don't _need_ an ignition box with boost if the stock ignition is in good shape and you run reasonable plug gaps. I won't argue that it wouldn't help, but it's not necessary.

As far as fuel pumps... again, in most cases a 255lph pump in tank will feed most FI setups well into the 700hp or more range, and less than that will work for a carb setup...
