Hey, I have a 85 Trans Am with a small block 305 with a 4 barrel carb. Everything is stock pretty much. It also doesn't have a posi rear. I am going to haul the engine out and I want to put in a new camshaft, timing chain, distributor, and spark plugs. I also want to clean up the engine bay and re paint everything etc. It's a 3speed auto with overdrive. I am trying to get as much hp cheaply and easily as possible until I can afford more.
What else can I do to my engine to give it a little more hp??
For the cam I was thinking a .05 .447.447 with about 10 overlap to give some sound. Is this a good choice??

I was debating whether to do headers or not but I don't know how hard it would be to connect to the y-pipe.

Any opinions??
