twin turbo tpi trans am
Just went and pulled a turbo from the junkyard, came out of a saab 9000, from the 2.3 liter, going back tomorrow for the other one. I've got an 85 tpi 5 liter with the 700r4 trans, 80,000 miles.
I think the route i'm going to go is mounting them on top of c4 corvette manifolds, weld the exhaust straight back into my stock exhaust, run the turbo air through an intercooler of some sort into the intake. Should make some power and since their small it shouldnt take forever for them to spool up.
Tell me what you think! any input would help. i know i need bigger injectors but idk how much bigger or what would happen if i didnt change them. everything is stock here so i dont know how much boost i should run. ummm tuning, i dont know how i would do that being that it's the 85 ecm that noone wants to program and i dont have the time resources or money to swap the ecm. Gunna try and keep a/c haha.

I am thinking you mean two independent turbos. Not a horrible match for the 305, probably a bit under sized but not horribly so especially if it's a stocker engine.
I'd ditch the box it's not THAT expensive to do if you're smart about it. TunerPro, a PROM burner and an ALDL cable and you're in business for very little $. Oh and some time/patience. I'm doing the Megasquirt which isn't terribly expensive but hey if you're on a budget a 7730 and Code59 isn't the worse thing you could ever do.
Ultimately you might be able to use an FMU, but it's a "bad idea" IMO and you're begging for trouble. You'd need a fuel pump at that point (a good idea anyways, get a walbro in tank or equiv) as you don't want to blow this thing up. Add a used set of cobra 39s on top of it with some stocker GN or GTP inectors or Turbocoupe injs (use resistors) and you've got something. Yeah it's doable cheap but you need a lot of research.
ED:If they are Bosch II style the Saab injectors may not be a bad choice. See what the size is and make sure they are the same. 2 sets of those wouldn't be bad. You may need resistors if they are low-Z though. Radio Shack sells 8 ohm ones for about $2-2.50 each the tuners use or get some used Turbo DSM resistor packs and use those instead. Either way will work.

Re: twin turbo tpi trans am
thats what i was thinking, that im not going for a huge amount of boost but enough to give the sleepy little 305 a boost without swaping internals.
The problem for me isnt the price of a newer ecm, the problem for me is the time and difficulty of messing with all the wiring and risking messing something up. i would love to do some ecm tuning but really have no idea how and it is almost a foreign language to me. not sure what those codes are either haha.
Not sure what a FMU unit is. I can see that id need a bigger fuel pump, but what would happen if i left it stock?
Didnt know other injectors would fit. idk, i guess the path of least resistance here is what i'm looking for along with being budget conscience. i'm not cheap, but limited on money so id just need the basics so i dont eff anything up or have driveability issues.
thanks for the help though, really appreciate it
