nitrous advice

Hey guys,

I have been looking at this system

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/NOS-05151NOS/

I have heard different things from different people weather to have a timing retard or not. Just hoping somebody here will settle the disputes if it is necessary or not, and if it is, how would I go about it. I dont plan on using it alot, just every now and then on the track. I have a 1990 iroc with a 350 with edlebrock shorties if that changes anything..

Thanks.

-James

Re: nitrous advice

All it takes is just 1 time to use it wrong...
2 degrees retard for every 50 hp... and a fuel pressure safety switch is also another engine saver... You don't want it on too early 3000 rpm and above or so... do it right and your car will last a long time...

Re: nitrous advice

thanks. would you leave the time like that all the time, or just set it that way before you use it like a track day?

Re: nitrous advice

Some of the popular ignition boxes (MSD, etc...) have an option to adjust / retard timing when a wire is grounded (or when nitrous is active)... Look around for choices and decide what you want from the car... I got an EBL P4 Flash from www.dynamicefi.com Besides tons of tuning capabilities, it can retard the timing for nitrous, it provides an RPM window for nitrous too...

Re: nitrous advice

so you cant just adjust your engine timing? is has to be done through ignition add-ons?

Re: nitrous advice

Sure you can adjust it with a timing light, and some basic tools... just easier with a switch... Do a search here on how to adjust timing...
