Vortech SBC kit on non forged sbc

Hey i have a 383 stroker motor. Its 40 over and has a complete eagle non forged bottom end. The heads are patriot 185ccs and the cam is 253/253 dur. .525/.525 hyd flat tap. It has an edelbrock performer rpm dual plane manifold and a demon 750 carb. The compression right now is 9.4:1. I saw the vortech kit in jegs and was wondering if i could get away with 7 to 8 psi. Any suggestions?

I think you could try it. A meth/water kit would help a lot as it has no intercooler. The meth will add octane and the water will displace heat and lower air intake temps. That cam may or may not work well with boost, id ask the cam maker. To save a headache, send your carb to a company like Pro Systems or CSU for a proper rebuilt for boost and it will he 99% tuned once you give them your engine specs. I'd run a carb hat too, not that wierd Vortech box but I don't have any experience with it to be honest.

Re: Vortech SBC kit on non forged sbc

So I am in the process of installing that kit. It is a good kit but not a drop in on our cars. The bracket needs to be modified to drop the super charger about 3/4 of an inch to shut the hood. It is not bad there are 4 bolt holes that need to be redrilled. This then leaves you looking for new belts which I will have part numbers for tommorow as I am getting close to getting this figured out. The carb hat they send you is a nice piece but cause hood issues ona bird may not on a camaro. I am using an ATI carb bonnet. Talkng to the Vortech guys the V3 si trim that comes in the kit is very efficient and actually makes good power at approx 10 psi without an intercooler. It was designed for the street and boost supposedly is generated starting at very low engine speeds. Depending on your compression ration and tunning skills it is possible to make any bottom end live as long as it has been well cared for.
