New to Nitrous, help

I have a 84 camaro 305 high output, and it's a real cheap car i bought to be a project car. I wanted to get it out to the track and running anywhere in the 12's before this winter. Usually i am not a fan of nitrous, but its a 305 engine, the car was cheap, and im thinking in the next few years to do an engine swap, so i figure, why not use nitrous? But i do have some questions. First, for my car, what shot of nitrous is "safe"? I would like to do a 150 shot, but 125 I'd be pretty happy with. I have a Q-Jet carburator. Also, i have read alot about purging? Ive heard from people that you have to run it or else youll get airbubbles that cause your nitrous to backfire, or that you dont really need it at all. My question being, is purge worth the money? or will my engine be perfectly fine without it? Also are there any accessories that i do need besides what would come in a kit? For example bottle heaters, window switches, blankets, etc. I dont want to put alot of money into nitrous or this engine, which is why im using nitrous in the first place.

Any information would be appreciated.

a good beginner kit would be a nos cheater kit, nitrous pressure gauge, bottle heater, and a nice accurate fuel pressure gauge. purge is helpful but not mandatory.
