Supercharger from a grand prix

If i had a grand prix with a v6 supercharged (think its 3.8), could i with a different manifold use that supercharger? Could i save any money that way?

Too small for a V8. You would need two of them or spin the hell out of the M90...

Its not too small, but there isnt any room to grow

You'd have to custom fab absolutely everything to use it

Re: Supercharger from a grand prix

_I think_ that they came w an M62 or M90, the 62 really is too small, the M90, wound up to its operational limits w a little porting will get a ponycar into the high 10's (my brother's 4 door LTD used one on a 5.0 ford to do it, I've posted pics and details before). Twin 62's would be interesting, but I don't like the extra hassle involved.

nothing cheap is going to be a bolt on, the fact is that the $$$ is the stuff that lets you mount the thing on the engine, although brackets and ducting isn't hard to make if you have some fab skills

Re: Supercharger from a grand prix

Series I 3.8's got the M62 and it was a turd

Series II got the M90's with teflon coated rotors. Problem is they have a massively restrictive inlet cast into the housing, so count on chopping that off and welding a bigger flange on

The GM cases also used a very large base so cramming it into an already tight Fbody engine bay would be a challenge. The T-bird M90 is better in so many ways and is what myself and 83 crossfire used

LOL... Chopping bits off isn't a problem, the back/inlet side of the M90 didn't look much like it did when as cast, we spent a long time hand porting it to shape, and since then I've gotten better toys, here's me machining an AustinMartin M112 case to replace the m90:

I have the old M90 off the LTD and am considering slapping it on a 3rd gen just to make something stupid fast, fun and simple... Wife hates the idea, she always felt my brothers car was too loud.

That tooling looks expensive.

I agree with her. With your knowledge of turbos why not go that route? Quiet & Quick. I don't like the noise vs performance of those SCs.

eh, pick up bits and pieces when you get the chance/see a good deal... of course I all my cars are junk and I have so many tools in the garage I can't get a car in there to work on it but oh well... That Sandivik mill in the bridgeport is just big enough to surface the important part of a set of heads

heh, I know nothing

you're right...,

But, sometimes I envy what my bother ended up with in that car, stupid simple, fairly reliable and the torque of something w twice the cubes. The new M112 setup is spinning the blower MUCH slower, it's much tamer and more drivable and running mid 12x mph in the 1/4 (don't have good times for it yet, it's power band is about 2800-5000rpm, and it's pushing through it's 3200stall PI so bad that it's stalling around 5100rpm). A couple of simple changes to that setup that my brother refuses to listen about and it would be daily driver streetable, get 2x mpg (the old setup got 24mpg driving to englishtown for MM&FF's Luxo Barge shootout (invite only event))

Re: Supercharger from a grand prix

Somehow I didn't notice it was you.... haven't talked for a while.

Yea, we spun the heck out of it, close to 18K rpm. Based on info that we got from a friend that's an eaton engineer, these things will survive and actually get more efficient w rpm.

How long do the bearings last at that rpm?
What diameter is that face mill?
