305 tbi turbo
Ok so I am building a turboed 305 tbi. With vortec heads and ebl flash. I have an ajustable fule presure regulator and bigger injectors so the questions I have are will the stock inurnals hold up for a summer of driveing on 8psi? Till I can get forged ones and what fuel pump should I go with? The turbo kit I am going with is an ebay kit I figured it would be a good start and just swap out the parts over time with name brand ones
Here's the kit. http://www.ebay.com/itm/SBC-283-305-...item2a1740d59b

Re: 305 tbi turbo
You should find a cheaper kit, to just use the intercooler, oil feed and return lines, and the one header. Then have the rest of the hotside, and coldside custom made, pick up your own quality turbo, (Turbonetics, Garrett, Precision) and go from there. I used to want to try one of them ebay kits, but it just would not be worth it.
Anywho. You could pick up an Eagle crank and rods pretty affordably. 400-500 or so for some Eagle H beams rated to 700 horsepower or more, 495 for an internally balanced 4340 3.750" stroker crank rated to 1,500 horsepower.. And it wouldn't be too bad to have JE whip you up some custom forged pistons. Most of the parts for probably like 1,500 or so. I'd do it first.
Sounds like a neat build though. Kind of nice to see someone wanting to mess with a 305.

Re: 305 tbi turbo
Sounds good but this winter I don't really have the ability to get those parts out of the motor to put new ones in so I was just wondering if the stock inturnals would hold up for the summer of driveing the motor has about 84000 miles on it so if I'm easy on the gas will they hold up till next winter when I can pull the motor and do the inturnals?

Re: 305 tbi turbo
i'm getting ready to start buying parts myself for a turbo'd 305 . i
'm also going with vortec heads an the ebl flash i'm gonna use a lt4 hotcam . i was messing around with this turbo calculater http://www.squirrelpf.com/turbocalc/ an it looks like a pair of gt2876 r's would hit the sweet spot for this motor . as far as how long it will last depends on many factors . tune , miles , how much you abuse it an what kind of shape it's in already .

Re: 305 tbi turbo
the motor has always been taken care of and has about 84000 miles on it I don't plan on beating on the motor at least not till I can get the forged inturnals. But what fuel pump should I get I was looking at bbk and holley in tank pumps that flow 255lph (67gph) with an afpr and injectors from a 350 would that be abel to suport the turbo?

Re: 305 tbi turbo
i'm a fan of walboro myself thats what i'm going with . an aeromotive 1-1 fuel pressure regulater . what intake are you gonna use ? i'm gonna do mine in stages . first the ebl flash an learn how that works on a stock motor then add the heads an cam an get that tune down then add forged internals an the turbo's . i think i'll have less chance of a bad tune that way .

Yeah I'm just going to pick up a vortec intake manifold from the junk yard and clean it up but the ebl flash is awsome I like it it opens up the motor really well

Re: 305 tbi turbo
yah but his is a TPI 305, which doesn't have the peanut cam and swirl port heads. He's probably done some other stuff to it as well. A bone stock LO3 TBI 5.0 V8 is too restrictive to be able to make effective use of forced induction.

Re: 305 tbi turbo
If you don't really get on it, then you'll never get to 8 psi anyways. Plus, what's the point of going through with boosting the motor if you aren't going to beat on it?

Re: 305 tbi turbo
If you plan on using a tubo your pretty much gonna have to rebuild the engine. That mean heads, cam, throttle body, and a new intake manifold. Perferambly an Edlebrok performer rpm intake. you'll also need to completely redo the exhaust and I'm not sure where your planing to mount the turbo/tubos.

Re: 305 tbi turbo
I took out my a\c and smog pump so there is plenty of room for the turbo and the heads are getting redone before they go on
