Quality catch can?

Since my car has a fair bit of blowby (new engine didn't seat all rings well) I want to re-do my PCV routing and need to buy 2 catch cans.

Pass valve cover -> catch can -> check vavle -> intake manifold

Driver valve colver -> catch can -> check valve -> Procharger air intake filter

Can anyone recommend a decent catch can for under $100? The $20 Ebay ones scare me..

I would be a little hesitant about going into the procharger air intake filter. I dont how much a "fair bit" of blow by is, but what I did on mine is to have the pass. valve cover be your inlet air (bought a breather with a built in check valve) then pulled air from the driver side valve cover back into the intake manifold with a check valve on it.

Re: Quality catch can?

With the setup I am proposing I do not have any "inlet air" for my crankcase. I am pulling air out with both lines since I have a fair bit of blowby putting positive pressure into the crankcase.

How does your crankcase vent when under boost?

Re: Quality catch can?

If you do that get a good quality check valve on the intake side. Not sure how much vacuum air intake pulls on a blower but there should be some however assuming filter is undersized. If large enough it shouldnt have too much restriction, so not sure how much if any vacuum is made. On the air intake side, i would put a oil air separator inline so oil doesnt get into the procharger. Catch can may not catch it all.

My turbo car just runs both covers to the moroso catch can that has a open filtered top. Nothing going back to intake or air suction side of turbos. Does well

Re: Quality catch can?

Yeah my turbo car (TTA) just has a breather on one valve cover and no PCV and never had an issue, just very minimal oil mist.

However, my supercharged 350 has a **** ton of blowby (may have to re-hone cylinders) so I'm just trying to reduce the amount of oil and vapors until I decide to rebuild if the rings don't ever seat any better.

I guess it doesnt...the more I think about it...I havent had any problems so fair with the way I have it set up, but I think I'm going to do some more research on how to vent crankcase pressure under boost.

Re: Quality catch can?

After researching I found this catch can for under $100:

I'm going to plumb my vacuum/boost gauge to my crankcase once I have the install done so I can see how well my system keeps my crankcase at negative pressure, I'll post my results.
