Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
Thanks alot man your build turned out sweet aswell! Got about 100 or so miles on the new combo. It has a few bugs to workout but i have it set at 10lbs rite now on 24 degrees total timing and it just immediately blows the tires off in any gear And it needs to be leaned out a little bit as it hits 10.5 on the a/f. Im happy overall with everything and i really like the msd 6530 box it is super easy to use and has some very cool functions and kevin from csu did a great job as usual and the carb my only need a jet change other than that it is real close out of the box. Idles at 13.5 a/f and cruises in the low 14s high 13s so im pretty happy with that. Im gonna drive it again tomorrow and get some more miles on this beast!

Just throw more boost at it! That should lean it out! Looks badass! Nice work!

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
Lol more boost is always the fix. LoL . I think 10lbs is all im gonna do for now dont want to run it to hard on the 92 **** they sell around here. Im gonna go see marty stromberger next week and have him give me a hand and some pointers on the 6530 box. He said hes ran turbo 383s as high as 28 degreees and they love it so we will see what happens. It is pretty squirley to drive rite now with a broken right leg i have to use my left foot for the gas and break so it gets a little interesting sometimes!

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
ya I can get you some pics. the radiator support will be getting remaid out of 1 5/8 rollbar tubing when the car goes to the chassis shop. I cut off the factory framehorns flush with the core support and plated it and made the radiator support and nose support removable, makes the car bitchin to work on. I made it out of 1x3 tubing and some soild 3/8 rod to build a bracket for the radiator to sit on was pretty easy but could of turned out better.

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
ive been making some progress on it, didnt think anyone was keepin up so i didnt update anything. the roll cage is installed and i am currently working on getting the roll cage and car painted before spring. im ordering a quick performance 9in housing and axle package for it and then getting it all put back together. i put about 300 miles on it this summer and the pump gas tune is dialed in pretty good. ill get some pics up of the cage and stuff.

Ahh the fun cage work. I did my last camaro's and it wasnt too bad, but only a 6 point. Amazed at the positions I can put myself in doing it though lol.
Let me know how you like the quick rear. Thats at the top of my list for next winter. Great pricing. I think the one I quoted was $2600. New center section, back brace, 35 spline detroit locker 3.50, aluminum Yukon diff.
Deosnt seem like many of the turbo builds get followed much anymore. Rarely do I get questions and comments on mine.
Looking good though, cant wait to see it in action.

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
been able to work on the car alittle bit lately. i ordered a 9in housing with a back brace from trick chassis. i got 35 spline strange axles and i have a yukon thru-bolt aluminum third member, lightweight spool, and 3.00 gears. i also got a disc brake kit from rite stuff detailing. i rebuilt the nose support out of 1.5 dom .120 wall and made it quickley removable with some weld clevis's. i am going to get the radiator remounted and the trans cooler also when i get some more time. my dad helped me get the subframe connectors in which turned out to be a pain in the *** because the frame rails are pretty beat up from the previous owners offroading or something. will take some pics when i get the housing in the next week or so, pretty stoked to see it in person!

thanks Orr. i need to get the radiator mounted and also get the trans cooler mounted. my 9in housing from trick chassis showed up so i have lots of stuff to do.
Alex at trick chassis did a super nice job and is very helpful if you have any questions, i would highly recomend him if you are looking for a 9in for a project.

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
bumpin this back up. ive been slowly getting stuff done on the car lately, progress is slow with a 2 yr old and my 1 month old son. i got the trick chassis 9" installed with the yukon thru bolt centersection and the disk brakes on. still need to install the water meth kit and re-wire the car and finish up a few loose ends. i doubt it will see the road before winter lots of little stuff to finish before im happy with it. the s475 is now a forced inductions billet wheel 84mm which should easily get this car to my goal of 8's in the 1/4. im also going to redo the fuel system this winter with a magnafuel pump and im going to do a fuel cell in the back also. here are a few pics i should have some more progress soon.

Either or. If my wife decided she didnt want it. I could take it. But with her being a nurse she gets 89% pay. Plus i would go crazy beinf home lol. We can also split it. I guess our taxes pay for it lol. Taxes are terrible in ontario!

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
Finally getting some stuff done on this thing! I've been super busy with work and both of my kids. My daughter is 3 and she is loving some shop time with dad so it makes it a lot easier to get out here and get some things done, she was out helping me wire last week so that was cool. I changed a bunch of stuff and pretty much rewired everything but the lights, and factory gauges. I bought a arc 8000 panel and built a relay board/electrical panel with a separate fuse panel and a relay for my ais water/meth kit. First time doing that but I think it turned out ok, wiring is defiantly not my thing.
I bought a set of kirkey pro drag seats, got a hurst pistol grip shifter, a hipsters transbrake, some powerstop brakes for the front. I had Marty stromberger install my brake and he tore the whole trans down to make sure it was ok. it was suppose to have some good parts and upgraded spraig and things but it turned out to be a pile oh s### so the trans got rebuilt with alto red eagles and a 4l80 2nd gear clutch pack and the hipsters brake installed. About all I have left to get is a better driveshaft as I don't think the 3" steel on is going to cut it. I think I'm going to get a pst 3.5" chromoly or a 4" aluminum if I can fit it. It's getting down to a short list of things I need to do, mostly just interior and shocks, struts, and wheels and tires and put the turbo and stuff back together. Here are some pics of the progress and some turbo whoring of the forced inductions billet 84mm s400.

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
Making more progress, I about got things finished up finally. I have been doing suspension stuff and getting the cage painted and interior put back in. I converted the front struts to mustang strange 10 way single adjustables and I put some strange double adjustables on the back with a lower bearing conversion and some transverse mounts from midwest chassis. Fired it up for the first time in 2 years, good to hear the thing run again and none of my wiring I did caught on fire!

The car is running really good besides breaking the spider gears in the 12 bolt, so I decided to try the Detroit Tru Trac 33 spline with 3.08's and I finally bought a Circle D muti-disk converter. Well I did not like the gears so I installed another set of 3.73's because I can now lock my converter in 3rd gear with no issues and still cross the finish line at 6100 rpm in the 1/4 mile. They do a lot of 1/8 racing down here in the south and my car loves 3.73's for some odd reason. I have ran a 5.93 @ 116 mph so far with this simple set up. And I love driving it to the track making faster passes than majority of the trailer cars. It's priceless and a joy to drive.

Yup, still stock GM 880 4 bolt main block. I was planning on turning it up to like 24lbs, but I know I'm already playing with fire. At the same time I do want to push the limits because all you hear is "LS this LS that" and to test the limits of my 700r4 with new Sonnax Smart Drum. I am also going to try TCI's trans brake for the 700r4. I got to try

Very nice build. Im currently in the slow process of the same build prety much in my 84 ta. Did u ever find a solution for the headlights. Cuz i noticed with mine the rad hits the headlight motors. Was guna remove and do my own pop up delete. Just having a hard time finding halos small enough to fit im the small area.

Re: 86 Ta 383 s475 build
Thanks. I modified the headlight motors and the end tanks on the radiator a bit. I shaved down the plastic on the headlight motor and ground the bolt heads until I got things to fit. I also had to dent the radiator a little bit just to give it some extra room.
