Best sounding cam for stock 305
I am looking for the best cam for a stock 91' 305 Camaro. The car has a flow master muffler on it and that is it. I am not looking for that much performance because if I was I would swap it to a 350. I am just interested in making it have a loping idle. Was wondering which cam would be best and what I would have to change to make it work.

comp makes some nice cams however allot of times you will have to change out your converter. my best advice go for power not sound. but if your set on sound thumpr is the way to go although I will probably get crucified for saying so. that or lunati voodoo cams. personally I run a comp thumpr although pending on how much power it makes I maybe switching to a voodoo cam. also if your interested I have a edelbrock rpm performer cam for sale. that would work perfectly in a stock motor and sound pretty good.

What converter are you talking about? And for these cams would I have to do any head work? Also how much are you thinking on the cam?

For whatever cam you do end up with you will need to change your torque converter on your transmission to match the rpm range on the cam you'll notice some cams say 2200+ stall converter etc. To run. Allot of times as well you will have to change your valve springs on your heads. Other wise you will have valve float which can cause the cam to go flat. Massively Rob you of power and cause a loss of power. If you want the kit I have which is the springs brand new lifters and the cam I'm asking 175 plus shipping which is a pretty fair deal since the cam retails for about 197 and the springs for 70 and your stock converter should be fine since the cam range is 1500 to 6800 most stock stall converters are kind 1600-1800

huh, the stock LT1 cam (late aluminum head one) sounded like it had a little bit of lope in an LT1, so I would imagine it would have a little more with a 305, but the right year TPI cam will actually have very similar timing with tighter LSA which will lope more... of course neither of those cams will win any "baddest sounding cam" awards...

Here is the cam card you should be fine it's a tiny cam it's not really going to give you that sound you want though. And with stock springs you might have a little valve float but it will work

Okay cool. I will pick the cam up tonight. $25 and 10 miles for cam and lifters. Should work good. Anything I should look for buying a used cam?

You won't be able to use the lifters you will have to buy new ones unless they are brand new. If they have any kind of dip or dent or depression in them whatsoever. If they are anything other then flat they are junk and you'll have to buy new ones also check to see if the cam is cracked or bent in anyway shape or form don't buy it. Also make sure the cam is nice and rounded if it looks flat don't buy it
