Gen2 Lt1 cam help

Hey guys im wanting to put a lt1/t56 into a 89 firebird, Im looking at either the lt4 hotcam, or the comp cam 503, the engine is all stock, not sure of miles. Is this all i need for the compcam 503, or is there better/cheaper alternatives i can use? This will be just for cruising on the weekends. This is the recommended parts on the compcams website it says to use

Re: Gen2 Lt1 cam help

I've run the comp 503 before, it's a great cam. In my '94 Corvette I'm running a CC-305 cam, which is a really nice street cam, especially with the 6 speed. I am running fully ported heads though.

I used 918 springs, ls7 lifters, the magnum full roller self aligning rockers, but I used different retainers and locks.

I also did LT4 valves at the same time, so my setup height might have been different than stock. I shimmed everything to keep the spring pressures in spec.

Yup. I really like this cam. Been running this combo for 4 years now, no issues.

It's not the fastest car on the street, but with the 6 speed it's very fun to drive.

Yeah no complaints. Drives well sounds good idles good at low rpm. Alittle dated lobes but they work

Re: Gen2 Lt1 cam help

Advanced Induction and Lloyd Elliot both have cams that are roughly the same duration and overlap, but make more power. I'd give both of them a ring.

You'll basically pay the same amount of money for any cam. You don't need a wild vavletrain to control something like a LT4HC or 503, even with 'modern' more aggressive lobes. Realistically OEM LS7 lifters and the appropriate springs are pretty much all you need. Its not like you'd be running crazy RPM with a cam in that range.
