High Compression & NOS Problems?
High Compression & NOS Problems?
Hey guys. I have never used NOS before but am experienced in tuning & setting up a carbed sb chevy.
Now i do not know how NOS & higher compression engines work. I do know the timing has to be retarded but by how much i have no clue. My regular timing settings are 14 intial, 36 total with medium springs in the distributor. Total timing occurs at just about 2600 rpm. Wondering if the plugs have to be gapped any different ect??? Also have an aftermarket electric pump with f/p set to 7psi. Engine temp usually runs ~175-185 degrees on a hot day, never exceeds 195. (4 core & high flow waterpump)
My mods are in my sig & i will be using High Test 110 PURE when on the NOS. Only difference is that it will be used on Vortec Heads & Performer RPM Vortec.
Any little things i should look out for?
Leaning on using a standard fixed 125 fixed shot NOS system unless anyone can recommend a better system at the same cost or JUST about the same cost.
Any info on this would be greatly appreciated.
Also, i run a Holley Strip Annihilator ignition system with a Lasershot 500 coil, ignited by an MSD pro-billet distributor.
Sorry pistons are Keith Black Hypereutectic mounted ontop of 5.7 I-beams & an 8600N steel stroker crank.

I'll try to answer some of your questions for you.
1. NOS reccomends 2 deg. retard for every 50 hp shot.
2. For your advance I'd probably recurve it to be 10 or 12 initial and 36 by 3000. Then retard 2 deg. for every 50 hp shot.
3. Plugs should be gapped at .030. (Some will disagree)
4. I have the Sniper setup and it is adjustable up to 150 hp. It also costs a little less than the fixed 125 system.
5. I have a plug reccomendation for the vortec heads and N20. You should run a colder plug for N20 so I reccomend the AC R44lts.
6. As for compression I run 11:1 hypereutectics and have no trouble.
Sounds like your ignition is in good shape. You should be fine Hope this helps.
