Please Read!! Somethings That Must Be Said!!!!!
THIS IS POST WHICH IS NOT ABOUT PROBLEMS/SUGGESTIONS OR COMMENTS ABOUT THIRDGEN.ORG. I HOPE THE MODERATORS WILL ALLOW THIS POST TO STAY HERE AND I HOPE THAT A GOOD AMOUNT OF MEMBERS READ IT. THANK YOU.
Ok...I have a few thoughts on my mind that have to be said.....I went to a car show last night and I really think car shows are becoming a complete waste of time! Whatever happened to a car with straight mods on it.....no fancy radios...no amps..no subs no tv's no dvd players just straight performance......ect ect...
Ive gone into a couple book stores to check the magazines....and what do I see?!?!?!!?!? Honda Tuner..Turbo Magazine...Honda this Acura that...Id say that most of the car magazines for sale are all Imports biased! Then here and there....there is Mustangs and fast fords (BLA!!!!!) but no GM Performance! Actually...I shouldnt say that there is GM Performance mags out there.....HOW TO MODIFY YOUR 67 CAMARO OR YOUR OLD NOVA. Now granted without these cars thirdgen.org wouldnt be here but Im sick and tired of seeing how all the attenion goes to old Camaros, Chevelles, Novas...ect ect. If there is a good CURRENT GM magazine out there that doesnt focus on 4cylinder Cavs and Sunfires please let me know!!!! I used to subscibe to Super Chevy Magazine because I liked it. As time went by I reallized that ALTHOUGH they do features on 3rd generation f bodys and newer f-bodys MOST OF THEIR FOCUS IS ON.................DRUM ROLL PLEASE............YOU GUESSED IT HOW TO RESTORE AND MODIFY YOUR 67 CAMARO!!!!!
I really believe that theres more mods out there for Imports than there is for GM. I hope theres somebody out there that either agrees with me so Im not alone or there is somebody out there that can prove me wrong.
Another thing...I'll be the first to admit Im not very active on this board but all the "postive" things (third gen calander and t-shirts) that happen on this board to bring some focus back to american cars ARENT HAPPENING!!!!!! I have to apologize to Okfoz here..I didnt realize that he isnt in charge or the shirts/calanders. Im sure that sooner or later the t-shirts will be made ALONG with the calander but theres tooooooooooooooooooooo many of you guys that say "that the third gen shirt should be this color...or we should do them as a collar shirt or we should do them this way OR that way...and then others voice their opinion and say we should do the shirts in white...black..gray..with a collar...without a collar...DONT YOU PEOPLE REALIZE WHAT THAT WILL COST AND HOW MUCH TIME WILL GO INTO IT??????? Me peronally.... Id be THRILLED with one kind of shirt with one color. That way we can wear the shirts (with pride) and we can spread the word that American Performance is ALIVE AND WELL!!!! When I go to car shows I really believe that the import guys are MORE "organized" than we are. They have huge meets....not to say that we dont have meets but they have HUGE AMOUNTS OF PEOPLE going while we have our meets at the local burger king or at Hooters. Something must be done about what Ive stated here.
One last thing...as for the "so-called" performance websites listed above......Im sorry Im not impressed with them. Maceven is garbage!!!! I was excited to see a new website on this board. Dont even waste your time going to it..what a waste of space!!!!
Again I want to thank the moderation(s) of thirdgen.org. to let post this message. I know its not exactly "on track" with the rest of the comments but I need to post it somewhere. If the moderators delete this post I will understand. I feel that even though I am not an active member this post should be somewhere where EVERYBODY can respond to it. I dont care if the feedback is postive OR negative. To the people that agree with me...from the bottom of my heart I thank you for your support....to those that disagree with me......PROVE ME WRONG.
Later.

jesus man..... learn how to turn the caps lock off.
first of all, bitching about how there are few american performance car mods. who cares? i don't. this is a thirdgen site, not chevelles, novas, etc.
if you want cavaliers or sunfires, go to j-body.org, not here.
the fact that you simply say that macewen's website sucks without giving any particular reason as to why, what's the point? the point is, you bashed a sponsor of the site.
get your **** and hit the trail.

First off...the last time I checked it was a free country and I can type any way I want. So who died and made you king??
2nd. Who cares about mod's??!!! I do and I think a lot of other people do since we have message boards like adding Super Chargers..Nos..ect ect.
3rd. Macewens' website basically offers basically nothing for our cars at all.
I can continue this converstation in a peaceful manner. Can you? I dont see a need to curse at someone just because they have a different opinion about things. But Im sorry...I forgot that someone very powerful died and made you king.

Dan,
You've got to understand that as far as knocking a sponsor's site who contributes support to this site is not a good thing. They help keep this site free and open for us and I'm gratefull to them for that, not to mention some of the products offered by many of the companies are top notch.
I understand where you are coming from concerning the stereo and neon "mods" at car shows...though. It's just the way things are and there isn't any point in blowing a fuse about it.
Concerning old cars, hey there are a lot of fans out there putting a lot of money into them. I'm one of them, but I also spend my fair share on my 3rd gen, too.

I think a LARGE part of the stigma associated with mod'ing modern muscle has to do with the computers in the cars.
You mentioned everything you see is about the 67 camaro. Well, OK... everyone knows that you can get a 4-bolt block, a cam with lobes bigger than mt. everrest, heads with ports bigger than sewer pipe, and a big holley, and you're going to get that cool idle and some major power. easy stuff.
How often have you seen a fuel-injected 3rd gen converted to carb? there's quite a few out there.
how often have you seen a fuel injected honda, acura converted to carb? uh, i don't think such a thing exists.
why is that important? the people who buy thirdgens (and modern american muscle in general) are less likely to dink around with computers and fuel injection, than they are carbs. And if you can't do anything with the engine, then you're less likely to do anything with the rest of the car.
plus, think of the popularity of these cars and who owns them. the acuras and hondas are owned by young people who want to go fast and be furious (sorry!). so they mod away. the 67 camaro's are owned by guys in their 40's and 50's who grew up with them and can afford them, and these guys don't want no part of fuel injection, they want their holley 750.... and they got the money to invest in their car.
so where's the interested party, who has money, and who wants to tinker with a thirdgen? bueller? bueller? thing is, there just is no major social group that's into thirdgens (and modern american muscle in general), that also has the money to buy into this stuff, and the interest to tinker and modify.
and there's your reason why GM killed the f-body, by the way.

And by the way, saying "who died and made you king" to a moderator is not a good way to keep your account here. Sure the mods are still people, and have been chosen for their level-headedness etc., but they don't have to put up with that ****.

I'll try to keep this short but sweet. There are plenty of magazines devoted to Chevy performance. Not all of them may be at your local supermarket-- you may have to go to a large bookstore. Some great magazines which do have very good thirdgen articles from time to time are Chevy High Performance and GM High-Tech Performance. There's usually something about thirdgens any given month in those magazines, and their subscriptions are cheap, too. And by the way, most of the articles that don't "seem" thirdgen-related actually are, because most of the magazines deal with modifications that can be done to any vehicle.
I sort of understand your gripe with car shows, but ever since the birth of the car shows, there have been people showing off their car stereos, "hydraulics" and other gadgets. I personally don't find it appealing, but I think it adds a little variety to the shows, and gives people who are interested in that sort of thing something to look at and exposes them to more "traditional" show cars.
Your gripes with the magazines are really unfounded, if you go to a major bookstore and pay attention to the articles in the plethora of GM-related magazines, you'll see what I mean.
Your opinion of a sponsor's website is your opinion, but instead of making generalized, vague, juvenile gripes like "their website is garbage", why don't you try something constructive like e-mail them with suggestions on how they might be able to improve it?
Also, If you're dissatisfied with the level of participation from fellow thirdgenners in your area, then talk to them and try to "rally" them (as it were) into having more productive, organized meetings.

So what? You're unhappy cause theres import magazines? They need something to read too. You don't need to post this garbage here. We don't care.

To add to what iroc22 has said, when you joined the board there was a list of guidelines presented to you concerning the conduct expected of you while you're in here. The fact that you are here means you must have accepted these guidelines, which in effect is like signing the thirdgen.net contract. Dirk (through his administrator and moderators) has every right to throw you off the site if you break the contract. Compared to the amount of active members on this board, the number of banned members is very small indeed.
But perhaps you've heard of the half-way stage? It's called probation.

Oh boy, I dont know where to start with this one. Got to get ready for work.
Yeah, radios/tv's in cars aren't go fast goodies, but like 86fyrbrd once said, it just adds to the affect of the total car. Granted I wouldn't want a tv in a 69 Camaro, but my '86 sure, if I could afford it.

JRoy91RS~ I'll have to look for Chevy High Performance and GM High-Tech Performance magazines. Truthfully Ive been to A & P's magazine rack..Barnes and Noble..a few bookstores in the mall and I really havent seen these. If theres another bookstore out there please let me know. But since you say they're out there I'll take your word for it and take a second look.
I dont wanna "further" any more wars so Im not going to go argue back and forth. It would be a waste of my time and anyone elses. What I have stated are just my opinions Im glad that some people can prove me wrong in some cases. Despite what people may think...I am a very open minded person. Im not a anti-f-body person as some of you make me out to be. Im now 22 and I saved for 4 long years so I could afford a f-body. I got to drive my 89 Cav around while 5.0 Junkstangs and Camaros passed me by. Im also glad that people can actually sit down and type a peaceful resonse to what Ive said here. Granted me pissing and moaning wasnt very peaceful but I didnt traget anyone directly....or at least I wasnt trying to traget anyone. I will say that Im not sorry to what I said to robertg. I didnt know he was a moderator but if I did I still wont change my post. I think a moderator should have posted comments like JRoy91RS 91L98Z28 or 92 Formula. I dont think anyone should be just "written off" like I was.
I wish I could "rally" people for clubs and meets but I simply dont have the time which doesnt give me the right to **** and moan. I work over 50 hours a week and am now going through serious health problems to boot. I could never be a leader in car club organizations but I would definately be a supporter in anyway possible. I give a lot of credit to the moderators that keep up this board as well as any one that organizes meets. That isnt me "sucking up" so I wont get kicked off...thats me being truthfull. If I get kicked off...then I guess I deserve it but I thought the rules also say that negativity..put downs, swearing or fighting isnt welcome on the board either. But I guess swearing is ok if you misspell words.

I think both of those magazines have websites, but I'm not sure of them off-hand. Also, there's a thirdgen on the cover of August 2002's issue of Hot Rod (an 89 firebird, I think). Great issue...one of the best all year.

Move to canada dude.
Every car show I have been to up here have 99% old muscle.
At the three hills show, which is a fairly large car show (1000+ cars) easily 40% of the cars were first gen camaros! I couldn't believe how many first gen camaros are still around.
the other 40% was old muscle and the last 20% were newer cars and ricers.

hey, all is well.
everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. but however, as it has been said, Dirk owns this site.
the reason they have different magazines is to try and cater to different audiences who like different cars.
they probably do have more mods for imports, but i don't know. i don't pay attention.
i apologize for coming off sounding like a ***** in my initial post.
yes, i'm a moderator. go me. i listen to worse stuff at work. just because i thought your post has no business being here doesn't mean i don't respect you. at least you decided you wanted to say what you felt you needed to say. and for that, cool
i agree with the comment of variety being brought to car shows containing hydraulics and computers, stereo's, etc. been part of the stereo craze myself, sort of grown out of it now as i approach my 20th birthday. i'm more likely to be seen driving my car (camaro has no stereo yet)
so, truce?

I know what you mean, but...
I know what you mean, but there is one magazine that does have what you are looking for: Chevy High Performance. I am a new subscriber to it myself and read every last page. It is about old and new and all about maintaining your chevy and making it faster. They do feature thirdgen articles quite often. They have some great articles and tech tips. It has helped me quite a bit so far. Go here for more info:
http://www.chevyhiperformance.com/
Hope this helps.

You know, I never thought about it until this last post, but most "American" cars are actually more "domestic" in Canada than they are in the US. It was funny to see a Canadian refer to American cars as "domestic" until I thought about it...
Chevy High Performance is excellent-they do more "generic" articles- that show good hp combos, swaps made easy, etc. It shows you how to do it, and where to get the info, supplies and its all affordable mods. The magazine focuses on hp for the common folk who cant afford Lotuses and McClarens. I highly recommend it-there are really good ideas in it - as others members mentioned before. Hey-it only costs like 18.00 for 2 years.

When I bought my camaro two years ago the first thing I did was get the following 3 books:
"How to Tune and Modify Your Camaro 1982-1998"
"Camaro Performance Handbook 1982-1992"
"Camaro Bolt-on Performance Guide"
The info is out there. All you have to do is find it.

Well....
All I like to see for the F-body and terms of magazines is more F-body parts for the 3rd gen. I want to see this part fits this year model package, etc., b/c finding out the info the long way sucks. esp rather you know a lot about 3rd gens or not. Getting parts is getting hard.
As for the certain interest in American Muscle, you must let that be what it is now, rather it's Ford Honda, Toyota, or any other Domestic. What is happening with the 3rd gen is that a lot of people get the problems of why they call it truly Tuned Port Injection, that equals a lot of maintenance and problems esp someone with not much mechanic skills.

I'm a long term subscriber to Chevy High Performance magazine and I have one thing to say....
"OLD FARTS"!!!
They are too set on carbs. Just recently they did that "My Generation" build up of a third gen Camaro (and I've seen a mention of thirdgen.org. That's how I found ya'll), but guess what year they used? 1987. Guess what type of induction system it had? Q-Jet.
Just once I'd love to see a build up of a TRUE budget EFI system like TBI, 'cause we all know that if they DO actually pic EFI, it's always TPI.
I've even written a few emails to Horse Power TV asking them to quit overlooking TBI. Think it'll ever happen? I doubt it.
OK. Got that off my chest.
As far as Tuners, Ricers, and Audiophiles, I think all that stuff can be done with good taste. There are a few cars I've seen (local, not in mags) that are built/modded very well. I wish I had the money to do some of the stuff they do.
Granted I'm a HP guy myself. The only thing I really want to make sure looks good on my car is the tail lights.
But some of the stuff these tuners/ricers do is absolutely AMAZING!!!
Go to www.maxpower.co.uk and tell me that 80% of those cars aren't cool as hell. No, they're not 12 sec. cars, but I bet they get a different lady looking at their cars every 12 seconds.
It's a new generation of car enthusiasts. They have different priorities. They'd rather blow their ear drums listening to 150 dB stereos than cross the divider at the local strip and nailing the opposite wall at 80 MPH. They like hand laid fiberglass instead of hand ported cylinder heads. When they talk 'bigs and littles' they mean subs and tweeters.
But one thing that will never die in the world of customizing/modifing cars is WOMEN!!! Cars, beer, and women are as American as apple pie!!! Even though the cars, beer and women all seem to be from other countries now.
Anyway... I love this website/message board. I thank Dirk and all the others for making it possible. To me, Camaros are what America is all about!!! I guess Firebirds to.
