an idea...

Ive been a third gen owner and member of this board for about a year now. when I fist joined up i knew little about cars and knew even less about performance upgrades. I have spent TONS of time reading threads and learning concepts and terms. This was a very time consuming process as In the begining I did not know the meaning of some of the terms being used and had to research threads for definitions. Often I did not want to ask anyone as I didnt want to feel like a dumb-*** or I didnt feel like it was worth another person's time (not to mention newbies often get flamed for NOT researching the boards). While this information can be found in threads, It is time consuming. I propose that a group of us get together and put together a "glossary" for newbies. This can only help our new members and reduce threads asking for this information. It can contain information such as what terms mean, and names and functions of common parts. Just an idea....

Good idea. I would just like to point out, I don't care how many times a question was asked, I'll do my best to help answer the question or tell them politely to do a search. I was once where they were, and I am still learning a lot. I expect people to treat me with respect on here when I ask a question and I do the same.

I know this was the first message board I ever posted it on, so everything was new to me, i didn't know about searching, or that certain questions occur all the time.

It takes as much effort to answer most questions as it does to reply in a rude way.

Most members are very professional in their replies, Mainly this "glossary" would be used to save time both on the newbies part and the other members.

a good idea, indeed.

and i get tired of seeing the new members getting torn into for not doing a search.

we really need this.

and part of that has been implemented. i know jester has a sticky thread locked at the top of the carb board that lists some general info.

Ill start it .. this is a good idea

Is there any company that makes "Altezza" style taillights for thirdgens?
-No unless you make them yourself custom

What can I swap in from a 4th gen F-body?
-So far Dash, seats, steering wheel, console, gas tank, T-56 transmission and rear end some with little or no alterations.

Does anyone make Headers for the 2.8, 3.1 or 3.4 Liter 60 degree V6's?
-Custom header shops can but theres no company making direct swap in headers as of yet.

Can I swap my 2.8 or 3.1 for a V8?
-Yes its fairly common to do this you will need the entire engine harness computer motor mounts and springs from a v8 donor vehicle.

Can I take the computer out of my car?
-Yes, the engine harness is seperate from the gauges and lights but it will be tough to make the engine pass the emmisions test.

Can i use a V6 transmission with my V8?
-Yes and No you can use the manual v6 transmission if you bolt on the proper v* belhousing and be gentle but there is no way to mount the v6 automatic transmission to a v8

Will a steath ram fit under my stock hood?
-Yes

Is there an aftermarket body kit for the 82-92 camaro?
-Yes its called the Eviluzone and it has very mixed opinions with our members.

Are there any remedies for sagging doors?
-Yes theres two things to check #1 the door hinge pins and bushings in which case there is a rebuild set available from GM and the door latch in which place the latch would need to be replaced.

Can i recover my headliner by myself
-Yes first pull down the headliner and remove the old material and scapre the foam off with a wire brush or something of that nature. Then lay down the new fabric and use some 3M spray adheasive to adheare the two together. Same to be doen with the sail panels and sunvisors.

Are there any shifters for my automatic that are a direct bolt in?
-Yes the B&M megashifter and the Hurst Dual gate both have console versions there is also the Hurst quarter stick that has a console version but has been discontinued.

Does the "Tornado" fuel saver acctually work?
-No its a gimmick

What is the easiest engine swap for the 2.8 and 3.1L thirdgens?
-A 3.4 block out of a fourth gen is as close as a direct block swap you can get for the 60* v6's and has significantly more power.

Can I swap my 305 for a 350?
-Yes but as long as your going carb to carb or tpi to tpi otherwise you would have to swap the computer and engine harness

Can I put a racing harness in my car without putting in a roll cage?
-Yes but its strongly advised you change the seat to a race bucket of some sort all you need to do is mount it to the floorboards

Can I take the airbag steering wheel out of my car and put an aftermarket wheel on?
-Yes you'll have to take the airbag wire out of the column though.

Is it possible to swap all my stock gauges for aftermarket ones?
-Yes and some places even sell templates for that application too

Whats the best spark plug for our cars
-AC Delcos seem to be the best as they are made specific for GM applications

Can I put GFX on my SC/Berlinetta/firebird?
-Yes you'll need to swap the nose and rear bumper and drill holes for the gfx

Just a couple of the questions seen day to day that get told "Do a search"

Anyone else want to finish or contribute?

Maybe add something about turbo's (Sizing, HP/TQ, boost etc.) and supercharges and Nitrous. Cause everyone loves those power adders and those seem to be the most talked about topics. And hint something on porting plenums, runners, and intakes. Theres some of my suggestions

I find myself gettin flamed for the above. So good way to avoid this. Wasnt there somethin similar in another board. let me check it out and get back to ya's.
