Im currently building a server machine to host my website on, and I have a couple questions. I have never hosted a message board before, so these are probably pretty simple questions. First, a little info about my server. Its not complete yet, but heres what I have so far. Its an ASUS P5A motherboard, AMD K6-3 450Mhz processor, 256MB PC100 (ill probably add more), Voodoo3 200 AGP video card (jsut a spare I had). Thats about all I have right now, the next thing I need is a hard drive. Im going to run windows 2000 or windows XP, with apache 1.3, PHP, mysql, and the forum will be either phpbb or invision. My first question is how big of a hard drive should I get? I don't know how big the sql database will get. How large is the database for this site? I noticed that there are almost 20,000 members, and over a million posts. I imagine the database is a few gigs, but im just guessing. Also, is the database pretty stable? Is there a way to make regular backups? I have never hosted a site before on my own server, so I'm trying to research as much as possible to avoid problems.
