Site layout

Did you know, that if you browse this website at 800x600 resolution (your average older laptop resolution)... the browser window is 65% ads?

I understand that ads are required to bring in revenue to pay for hosting, etc.. But even at 1024x768 it's a tad distracting trying to read. Maybe having a script that'll rotate three ads at the top of the screen, and you can get revenue from the companies based on the percentage they're shown?

Just a suggestion. I don't know jack about computer stuff.

I did think at first the addition of the new ads was a bit much, but this site is free and it's an awesome site, so I deal with it. Now I don't even notice it.

I don't notice it much really anymore either. However, lets say they were to acquire like 5 more sponsors, then I think they should do something like you said or link to the sponsors or something. But thats just my opinion. And like Mark said, the site is free and awesome, so I deal with it

It was, but he had it painted. From what I heard, it looks pretty nice.

Back to the topic, I like this site. Dirk can put as many sponsors as he wants, it does not bother me.

Yeah, I had it painted. It looks better black with gold decals and emblems to me. There's a pic of it at http://www.codeink.com/syn/daily.jpg

Sure, I like the site too... but if 225 pixels of a 600 pixel display are used with ads, it takes away from me enjoying the site. Like I said before, it was just a suggestion, I know not everyone can afford 21" monitors.

Think about it.. you have 600 vertical lines, and with Internet Explorer under most versions of windows, the title bar, address bar, and navigation bar take 112 pixels. The status bar and start bar take up 50 pixels. The ads take 225, the vbblogo.gif takes 82 pixels with around 20 pixels in text before you actually get to the "post area" of the first post. That totals 489 pixels, or 81% of your screen. If you took out only one line of ads, the non-post area drops to 69%. And if you consider that you only have 800 pixels wide for wraparound text, and a 30 reply post, it takes forever to scroll down as well.

Just a point of view.

You can change your user cp to have only 10 posts on a page at a time. I have mine setup like that, it makes it eaiser to load and less scrolling.

its always great to see more new sponsors of the site, it gets the word out that this site exists and will hopefully bring in more new members.

the ads dont bother me neither.

Here's an example of what I'm talking about. This is what 89FRMLA350 sees when he browses a post.

Do you have a mouse with the scrolling wheel on it?
I like having the sponsors up there at all times, eventually we will be seeing mine.

I have a 21" monitor. I'm commenting on this for the sake of people like 89FRMLA350, who have tiny monitors.

I don't mind it at all. I use those sites all the time anyway.

Me too, even though I can't afford anything on there yet, drooling over what my car could potentialy do in a 1/4 mile run is good enough for me! As for the laptop people, the only computer I have is my new Sony VAIO laptop, but my screen is 1600x1200. (yeah, big laptop, 16.8") so my guess its just the size of your screen? On mine, adds are just little blips here and there. Don't bother me a bit...
