Request for Technical Information for site
After the unsettleting 404 error all weekend I was wondering what is the offical status of thirdgen.org?
Who is the technical contact or site administrator ? If so who's hosting ? Do you pay for hosting ? Do we know what kind of servers these pages are hosted on ? Do things (images, conf files, archives, posts) get updated or backed up with any frequency ? Is there a web designer ?
And finally, can you use any professional help . . .

i can answer some of those questions even though i'm not with TGO. The server itself never really went down for any length of time during all of this as it was a dns issue that Dirk was taking care of. There was always 30 or so people on this site who could get to the forums using the dns URL.
Dirk is the one who handles most of the server admin duties while Iroc is the one who does most of the forum management. Basic server specs is a dual AMD 1600+ with 1gig of memory and some ide/scsi drives. Last time i was aware, there was regular backup done of the vBulletin database which would be one of the most important backups in my opinion. i couldn't believe that Dirk or Iroc would gamble with something like that. They do seem to know what they're doing. i do know that Dirk knows his area very well and he has done a good job keeping the server up and functioning with such a large forum with quite a bit of activity.
i'm sure Iroc can add further or correct anything that i might have been in error with.

I didn't know about the dns. url, but I did a whois and found the IP address, and I used it.
Dirk is "The man", and he does an excellent job.

right, ok. dirk is the man. and sounds like things run pretty smoothly
this was more of an open ended invite to those up-above.
currently we have a 2 T1 lines, and run mostly linux servers built w/ apache and postgres, a few windows 2K servers on IIS, sybase, and oracle as well.
*if* the need for any web realted programming, design, hosting, storage, etc. arises, sooner or later. feel free to contact, of course, never any charge.
...an ace in the pocket if you will

-keep up the excellent work

JT got most of it. Dirk keeps the site running while I do pretty much everything else. We both do a mix of things actually. I haven't heard from him enough lately though, which tends to slow things some. We have no designer.
