Possible to have a For Sale/ Wanted section on the forums?
Yes I know this site already has a classifed section, but I find it a little easier to be able to PM folks and reply to topics about items being sold. Has this been discussed before?
its not a bad idea.
pro's:
u could have one thread and post multiple pics of the stuff for sale, instead of making 3 or more ads with the some thing but different pics.
it would be easier to make it clear of whats going on.
like i have seen ad's where people say something is for sale, but they actually where trying to make a parts wanted ad.
in the forum they would have to type everything on their own and that way it would make it clearer.
con:
might get out of hand with non important / flaming replies and such, but i am sure their could be a mod to help keep things tech / business only.
overall, i think it would be something to try maybe. since some people cant even find the classifieds sometime...

i agree it'd be nice to have a "for sale" message board. the classified section on this site is frustrating. not laid out very well IMO. the classified section just seems kinda bulky...it's much easier to maneuver around a message board
and yeah, like Md said, it'd eliminate 3 posts per user to post 3 diff. pics

And you would be able to permanently ban those who sell things that the buyer never recives, or damaged parts. Perhaps we should have something like ebay, with a rating of the sellers? That would make me not so reluctant to buy stuff, and others too I guess.
I think this is a really good idea.

the ebay thing would be cool, having feedback ratings, but since that's not built into the vb code, it'd prob be pretty hard to do. making 1 more board would be simple though, and i'd be happy w/ just that, if only the admin can be persuaded...

I also like a For sale forum better than the classifieds here. I agree with all of the above reasons and have some new ones.
With a for sale forum, once you make an ad, you can easily bump it up with a quick reply. Easy and effective if your posting up the same thing. With the classifieds, its a pain in the but. You have to delete an ad if you go over the 6 ad limit, copy all your stuff or retype it, and then make another ad.
And if you have a forum it would be easier to make changes to your ad. If you sold something you could just edit it out, or edit it if you want to add something. You would not have to make a whole new ad like you would have to do in the classifieds. You can also put up more than 1 pic which helps out alot.

Indeed it does. Im not sure they want a classified section because it would mean more costs on expanding the boards or extra bandwidth? What is the actual reason?
If anything, could a banner be made somewhere near the site sponsors saying "Thirdgen.org Classified section"? It would be much easier to access and more visible. I myself always skip the main page because its rarely updated and i've gone through most of the tech articles as is.
So if its not possible to make an extra board (which I don't what the problem is, but im sure you have your reasons), is it possible we can have the classified sections linked somewhere here on the boards in a more noticable manner? Thanks.

Anyway you can consider IROC? Or at least make the classifieds more visible? What is the actual problem if you don't mind me asking?
i'm sure that was just a joke. i really doubt that is the reason since Iroc has added forums before. It is very simple with vBulletin.
If they do implement this, it might be neat if they also hacked or tweaked the template and database to include a field for an asking price. And perhaps list the asking price field in the forum display along with the title, so you can easily see if the ad is worth looking at or not based on the price.

Better overall integration...
I for one think this isn't a good idea. A better solution is to revamp the Classifieds section.
My reasoning is that it's in the best interest of both the buyer and seller to keep any further correspondence in private.
What TGO really needs is better overall integration. The forums are the reason people come to this site, but there is no easy method of accessing any other part of TGO while on these forums. In fact, aside from typing "www.thirdgen.org" in the address bar again, there is NO method of reaching the Classifieds, Tech Data, or any other section.
[correction] You can scroll to the bottom of a thread and click ThirdGen.Org, but this is far from effective, seeing as I just discovered that link 30 seconds ago.

As JT says in nearly every post,
(thankfully) we aren't gonna do stuff just to lose it when VBB 3.2 comes out. (whenever that'll be, any word JT?) Then we can add all kinds of things.

One more vote for a for sale forum here... I think it would be a nice addition

Well I hope it gets added. If you cruise the regional boards, these might as well be a for sale section of the board as sales on those go pretty smoothly and pictures of items can be viewed easily.

This is why we have the Classifieds.
