Site privacy policy

I have been noticing an increase in spyware/adware on my PC since joining this site.

Now, maybe it's simply a coincidence, but I thought it was worth asking if this site is ad supported, as I don't see a privacy policy with regard to keeping information secure from third parties.

This is important to me, as it should be to all members, as spyware and trojan horses are very common, and are used by unscrupulous third parties to get personal information, including bank account numbers, passwords, etc.

So, if the company that hosts the site for ThirdGen.org does it for free if it can collect info about it's users, I have an issue with that.

Personally, I would rather sell ads, etc. than have my privacy invaded.

Hopefully I am 100% wrong, but at least it will put my mind at ease.

Can an administrator address this?

Thanks!

Whenever i do use IE, i don't pick up any problems here. However, the majority of the time, i'm using FireFox.

Dirk pretty much is the host and controls the server, so i don't think there is such a problem.

Sorry, not an admin here. i'm sure you want to hear the above from a higher up.

What a lot of those spyware, adware and other software for such items pick up on is the cookies that all or almost all sites use. Not all cookies are tracking cookies or invade the registry of a users computer. After each session on the computer I run a spyware program to check to see what type of cookies have been sent to my computer. A lot of them come from pop-up banners and I just delete them and lock the site they are attached to.

i would agree, and should have elaberated further, that a pop-up stopper is a good tool to help prevent such pop-ups from executing. Cookies are not the only thing you have to worry about.

Using FireFox, that really hasn't been a problem for myself and i haven't seen a problem on this site.

I have a pop up stopper, and I run Spy Sweeper once a day (or more) and I've been finding trojan horses, etc. Cookies don't really worry me, except those Gator ones. But that's a WHOLE 'nother subject...

If you guys aren't having real issues, than I'm probably getting this stuff from another site...

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it.
