Scroll bar??

I have a question regarding the scroll pad. I have a HP Pavilion laptop with a touch pad scroll feature on the side of the mouse touchpad. I don't know if this is a code issue or a problem with my laptop, but while using the scroll feature in the threads or within a forum, I lose control of the scrolling. If I start to scroll down the page, the scrolling gets really slow and I can't control it. It will continue to slowly scroll, then it will scroll up, then down again.

Scrolling works just fine if I click and drag the scroll bar on the side of the window. It's just the touchpad scroll bar. As an FYI, I also get the same thing on eBay. It's a recent thing that I've noticed within the past few months. I have reinstalled the touchpad software and tried working the PC. Is it my PC or is the problem in the code. Thanks guys.

it's just an issue with the computer bogging down because of traffic on that specific page or its content. your computer is fine. may help to defrag it.

If the page has fully loaded and the scroll bar does not function correctly, it would not be related to "traffic" as the page is already done loading and your connection to the server is pretty much "done". It could be content, though. What are the specifications of your machine?

Since you mentioned this occurs on eBay as well, that might point towards it being an issue on your computer. I happen to have an HP ZE series with the scroll touch pad myself. I'll see if the issue occurs on mine sometime soon.

That said, what browser are you using? Is the overall feel of the browser choppy when you visit the forums? If you highlight text, or if you type a message in the message box, is it slow to respond?

I do know that my scroll touchpad has always been a bit flaky on my HP. Sometimes it will completely stop functioning (regardless of the application you're using). Often times a reboot restores it. I know that isn't your problem, as I'm sure a reboot has occurred a few times in the past 2 months that you've noted the issue.

I've defragged the hard drive, ran all anti-spyware and virus software, etc. I haven't had popups for over 2.5 years and everything else is fine, so I know it's not the typical issues. I tried installing Firefox a few months back and it sometime around that the problem started. I don't remember if it was before that or after. I'm running IE version 6.0.2900.2180. It's possible the problem is from a Microsoft update. I don't know.

The page can be fully loaded and I still experience the scrolling issue. I don't have any issues with page loading, for the most part. At some times, the page will hang. A page refresh fixes that. My pc specs are an HP pavilion ze4500 laptop with XP SP2. It runs an AMD athlon XP2500+ 1.86 Ghz with 512 ram. My HD is a 40Gb with over 20Gb available. I noticed the scrolling about the same time the site changed to the new software. Again, it could be a Microsoft issue. The scroll feature works perfect on non web applications, so I know it's not the mouse itself. Could it even be a Java thing? Thanks guys.

So from what I understand, the scroll issue is occurring while you using IE 6? You mention trying to install FireFox. Does it work better in FireFox? Or is FireFox not available on your laptop?

After the page has loaded, when you start typing your message in the message box, does the text appear like it should? Or is there delay before your typed text starts to appear on the screen?

I'm trying to see if this issue is related to the template issue we have where some members have "choppy" issues while using IE on TGO's forums. From the sounds of it, based on the behavior (up and down on it's own), and having the same experience with eBay, it sure sounds more likely to be something on your laptop. Not trying to pass it off.

I understand that your not trying to pass it off. I just don't know what upgrades eBay has done recently either. I was thinking it could be a coding issue for web based apps since the scroll works fine in Word and other apps. It's just web. I installed Firefox but I ended up uninstalling it because the scroll feature didn't work at all.

I think I'll do a system restore to a point maybe 6-10 months back and see how it works. I'm beginning to think it's a MS update problem. I just recently turned off auto update because it was updating daily. A little too much from Big Brother at that point.
