Email notification

What happened to my email notifications? Under subscriptions it shows what i'm looking for but now I get no email notifications.
Did the maintenance over the weekend lose them?

Curious.

Same thing has happened to me. No emails about new post or pm's. But in the user cp, everything is checked like it's suppose to be. Adam :-)

Re: Email notification

Yes, the email notification is currently not working due to a mail server issue, from what little I know at this time.

I'm under the impression that the email functions should get restored, soon. You will notice that the search feature was broken, and was giving a high priority over email convenience. Email features being offline isn't simply a problem to you members, it is to us staff members as well.

In short, TGO was moved to a different server, transfered ownership and has been working on some issues that were not foreseen. Transferring a large website to different servers doesn't always go as planned. People with experience and knowledge in this area will also know that rebuilding the search on a database this large isn't a trivial matter.

Check your subscription levels for those threads. Also, you will likely only be notified once per thread, regardless if there is multiple replies.

Re: Email notification

My subscription level is Instant Email Notification, by default.
I realize that I get only one notification for multiple replies in the same thread. That's why I made the "different threads" comment.

For example, there were replies to three of my subscribed threads since yesterday. And I received only one notification, for this thread specifically.
It varies day by day, sometimes I get more notifications, sometimes less.

What could be causing this?

I see you're using a yahoo email address. This isn't the first time I've heard of a member using a Yahoo email address that didn't always get emails from the forums. Might also want to check your spam/bulk folder.

Re: Email notification

Spam/bulk folder contains only spam, that's what I like about Yahoo, they have good filters.
We did have some email shortages back when Yahoo was running like crap but I haven't detected a problem in a few months. Oh well, I'll just keep checking all the threads by hand.

Btw, the link that's sent in the email notification has "-new-post" at the end. I'd assume it's supposed to take me to the actual new post in the thread but it doesn't, it always shows the first post. Same thing with the little "blue down arrow" in front of a thread with new replies (in the thread list). It has the same link but takes you to the first post instead. Could you guys look into that, please?

The email filtering system is not perfect. I had a Yahoo email account as a test system that had forum notification go into the Spam/Bulk folder (without me teaching it to do so), and I've worked with some members that have had it occur as well on Yahoo. Beyond that, there were some cases where members using Yahoo's email service didn't even get emails from TGO.

So when a member reports that they are having issues receiving forum email, and they're using Yahoo's email service, I often find the two related.

I received all the expected email notifications today so it's all good at this moment.

Any idea on the new-post link issue?
