Buying an '87 GTA vs '91 T/A
Buying an '87 GTA vs '91 T/A
I wondering which seems to be the "better deal"...
I am in a position to where I could buy either
a '91 T/A or an '87 GTA (w/ digital dash)
both cars have a 5.7L and the GTA has T-Top's.
(i bet ya someone did the motor swap)
both cars claim to have rebuilt motors + trans
and blahblah. but how for can you trust someone
elses work?
now on to the bad things..
The GTA is trashed bad... the photos i have from the
seller tell me he didn't/doesn't take care of it.
the motor "looks" sick but what can you tell from looks?
the interior is trashed and needs a new center console
pass/side seat + a new dash pad.
now the GTA has only 130k miles. which isn't too bad.
on to the trans am..
207k miles.. enough said? =)
the paint is **** and the body needs some minor dings taken
care of. the car over all isn't bad other than the paint.
my idea was/is to buy one of these cars and hang on to it
for a while.. kind of a slow and fun project.
as we all know having an '87 GTA w/ the digital dash
would be kind of neat. but its sooo trashed inside.
the '91 t/a looks tough/mean (after a pait job).
but the main problem is this:
GTA costs about 700$ to ship it..
(i'd just go get it but i can't trust it will get me home safe)
the t/a is about 4-5 hours away and i'd just hop on my
skateboard and pick her up.
cost is looking like
gta - 2,500$
t/a - 2,000$ (because its soo ugly outside + high miles)
my question is, what would you do?
I fancy the GTA due to the digital dash and it being a GTA.
but the '91 t/a CAN be fitted with a digital dash (right?).

Gut feeling is for the GTA, but not at the price you mentioned. I wouldn't pay that much for it if its that trashed. It sounds like a ok car for 2 grand tops. Your first paragraph seems to imply that you think 350 GTAs didn't come with t-tops. To my knowledge they did most of the time. (If that's not what you meant, my mistake). Also, my comment on the price would only matter if you're in the same region as I am. Prices vary between regions.
Both cars sound a little rough. What might help us offer a more informed opinion to you is:
-is this one of your first cars?
-will you have the time to rework either one?
-etc etc etc
Basically with enough time and money, any car can be saved. Sorry if i'm missing the mark here, but we have no idea of how much (or little) experience with cars you might have (in relation to fixing the motor and interior up)
EDIT: You might wanna ask a moderator to move this to a different forum also
