I just recently bought an 83 camaro and it has some carburetor problems, it doesnt seem to get much gas when accelerating and sometimes sputters around 45 mph. I dont know very much about cars yet. However i did notice a part on the carburetor that didnt have a hose/line going to it. Can anyone tell me about it and if it is even supposed to have a hose going to it. (look at pic)

any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

That's an odd-looking set-up. Doesn't look anything like my '82 or '86. Where was this car originally delivered?

 

Can you tell me what you mean by delivered?

 

U.S.? Canada? Europe?

 

U.S Its a sport coupe 173ci V6(LC1) All stock.

 

You wouldn't still happen to have the original emissions diagram sticker in readable condition under the hood, would you? That would be your best place to start.

Something in the back of my brain tells me that NO vacuum line goes there (at least not on that pointing part sticking out in the photo), but that's just my gut reaction, not speaking from a point of technical certainty.

 

actually yes its still there and readable. However i havent a clue what to look for...

 

Look for the color-coded pictoral diagram of where the vacuum lines go from the carb/intake to all the various vacuum-operated bits. It's not a scale-diagram but if you look at it carefully it's basically laid out exactly like if you were looking at the motor.

 

I see "vacuum sensor" and the line from that goes to "H." This is all very confusing to me.

 

Gads, my mistake. I thought you were talking about a V8.

Looks to me like the hose is attached from the side of the diaphragm. The end piece doesn't have anything attached to it.

 

So theres nothing wrong with that?

 

Can you get a clearer, closer shot of that area? Perhaps with the air cleaner off?

That's what I was thinking first too, I was wondering why the a/c compressor was in front of the intake, never saw that setup before.. must not work too well, doesn't look like there's a belt on it..

 

ya the a/c doesnt have the belt hooked up. I think the previous owner took it off because the a/c needed freon and she thought it would be better if the belt was off.

 

The only difference it will make is the .07 HP it takes to turn the free-wheeling pulley. Of course, with a 2.8 V6, every little bit helps. . .

Anyway, go to www.partsamerica.com, search on FS1081. That's a weird looking pull-off, but the hose goes to the side, from your first picture it looks like it's attached. The piece sticking out the front is a spring or guide or something, but I don't believe anything hooks up to it.

It's been 8 years since I saw a 3rd gen V6 carb, and frankly, I didn't look that close at it even then.

I'll copy this to the V6 forum so they can confirm all this.
