AC Delete Box (1LE) - couple Q's...
I just went and bought a AC delete box. I figured it makes sense overall, since my AC went out years ago and the bottom corner of my original AC box got melted/cracked from the shorty headers anyway.
It supposedly has the "old style" resister on it....is that a good or bad thing? I'm assuming I'll still be able to shift the blower from dash vent, to floor/windshield vent correct?

Non-AC Blower is different then the AC Blower. I believe it's both the squirrel cage and the speeds. The vent control should be that little vacuum tube.

Yeah, the AC delete box comes with the the blower and squirrel cage + the wiring...will everything else work fine (except the AC of course lol)??

Put your existing resistor pack in the hole for the 3-speed. It fits, trust me (I've been using mine for quite a while now). Everything will work the same except you won't have A/C functions (conditioned air)... All vents will work the same provided you hook up the vacuum inlet properly (and don't reverse it with the heater control valve line).
You'll want to clean the crud off of the bulkhead before you put the replacement box in or it will look like crap. And you may want to get some cheap weatherstrip tape and put it on the outside of the blower box to replace the old stuff that may be cracked and dry rotted.

I haven't done the swap yet as my passenger side head would hit my fiberglass box with the old K member. I haven't tried on the new K member maybe it moved a little bit after the swap. I believe it should all work. The only thing I've ever heard people complain about was the price, availability of the boxes, the AC blowers don't fit the non-ac boxes, and the fact the speeds were different so controls didn't adjust speeds on all the clicks.

Guess I'll find out...if not, I'll reuse my AC resister then.

Re: AC Delete Box (1LE) - couple Q's...
The resistor pack may seem like it won't go in the hole, but it does.
I couldn't use the 3-speed resistors on my box because they were destroyed. Heck, the whole box wasn't in that good of shape (it was the only part left of the base heater system because one bolt wouldn't come out... had to pry it out of the bulkhead!).
:edit: I looked in the service manual and you need to reuse your existing resistors... The connector on the 3-speed harness is different (looks like a headlight connector).

Re: AC Delete Box (1LE) - couple Q's...
If you use the AC resistors and high speed blower relay you will retain the high speed setting that the non AC cars do not have. NOT all the resistors will fit however, the later weatherpack style will not fit without enlarging the hole. The wiring harness on those will also not fit the non AC motor, which will have a round connector and seperate ground tab.
connector difference:

motor difference

squirrel cage difference

...and you can not swap them over

This is what fits bolt on without mods, the earlier resistor bridge.

Thanks Twin Turbo!
I did a search, and didn't see those pics! I looked at your pics and compared it to the pic of the one I just bought, and it appears I have the older style with the spade connector on it (the black squirrel caged one). And since it's going on my '83, I'm assuming I have an older type connector to my existing AC box.

Re: AC Delete Box (1LE) - couple Q's...
The one with the black squirrel cage is a late style AC blower motor, the early one is the same, even the pointy flange shape but different connector. the short squirrel cage one, rounded flange is for a non AC box. The 2 flanges don't interchange either. They will olt up but the hose ends up too short and at the wrong angle.

Re: AC Delete Box (1LE) - couple Q's...
I'll go out later on after work and take a pic of my existing AC box and fan...then maybe you guys will have some tips for me when I go to install this thing. I know I'll be changing out my headers too this winter, so I think that would be the best time to swap out the boxes...
