Re: NOS GM mufflers......
Check out these tail pipes. Pretty darned close to factory
Go to the Xlerator website and check out the mandrel bent X3000 and X3001 tail pipes.
http://showmetheparts.com/apexhaust/
#34754 and #34755 are pretty close too.
See what you guys think. About as close to factory as I've seen.

If it wasn't for the compression bends, those would be dead ringers. Going to buy a pair and put them on the yellow car Charlie?

I'm on a roll boys.....
This pre-bent I- pipe, part # X6501 is 3" in diameter. Why is that significant? All other replacement I-pipes from all the other manufacturers are 2" or 2.25" or 2.5". Not what you'd want to replace your TPI 2.75" factory I-pipe with.

Re: NOS GM mufflers......
The x3000 and x3001 are listed for v6 cars while the 34754 and 34755 are listed for the v8 cars. Why would that be? They look to be the same diameter pipe right?
If they are then the 3000/3001 look spot on and I would be getting them for my TPI V8...

Re: NOS GM mufflers......
I didn't read all two pages, so this may have been covered, but those mufflers are only correct for the 4th gen and maybe the last year or two of the third gen when they started to use clamps. Before that, all mufflers and tail pipes were single unit assemblies I believe.

They were a muffler/tail pipe assembly, with the tail pipes welded to the muffler outlets. These are the mufflers, minus the tail pipes.

Well, you must be the lucky one with mouse turds.

From experience, you'll smell the odiferous aroma of critter pellets burning off for an hour or two, and that will be that.

Re: NOS GM mufflers......
The clamps did exist on the '91, here is a pic of mine:

Re: NOS GM mufflers......
I've just been following other hobbies. When any hobby starts to get old, I set it down and step away for awhile.
The 34754/34755 numbers look to be Walker part numbers. Should be able to get them through most chain auto parts stores.
Summit lists the X3000/X3001 under APH-X3000 & APH-X3001, but doesn't give any specs. However, the Apex Exhaust "Performance" catalog shows the X3000/X3001 and X6501 I-pipe as being 2.5", not 3".

FWIW, a lot of the parts store replacement exhaust parts for thirdgens have gone to using the same muffler and tailpipes for everything from the V6 to the L98, simply so they don't have to make and stock different parts.
If you really want performance sized exhaust, stick to a catback. If you want something very close to OEM, it's hard to beat Walker/Dynomax. While the stock TPI I-pipe IS 2.75", it necks down to 2.5" where it slips inside the muffler. The Walker I-pipe is virtually identical.

On the X6501 I-pipe, I called CARid on it's specs and they have it listed as 3". So, who knows.

So nevermind what the manufacturer shows? Not at all concerned that the diagram shows three 2 1/2" muffler clamps? Can't imagine how the company that makes the part knows less about it than random vendors.
Won't know for sure until someone orders one, but everything I'm seeing shows that I-pipe as being 2.5".

But you are right, someone has to order one for us to know 100%.
