filler panel mimics OE shape and angle pretty well.

The gap behind the wheel opening is from sectioning the fender and moving the wheel opening 5" forward. Also current tire is 275/40R17 on 17x9 w/6"bs. Track day will use 18x10.5 wheels w/7.5 bs and 315/30R18 tires.
These will end up being the best flares posted to date.

These are add on flares produced by GM for the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) bound 3rd gens. I have never seen them mounted on anything else, but cars in pictures, or the Japanese GM car brochures. I recently sold them, as they weren't quite what I was looking for. I can say they fit the lines of the car better than some I have seen...

BADNBLK thanks for the VERY kind words! I am not sure that they will quite meet your expectations as my body skills are kind of weak. I was trying to keep the look of the stock flare but had to move it out almost 2". Those JDM pieces look like what I am trying to achieve but I also needed to pull the bottom of the fender out for clearance on turn in.

I made numerous searches in this forum and also the body and appearance forums and umpteen (that's a lot) google searches and didn't see anything I liked. Also didn't see anyone here section the flare like I did to move it out so I was pretty apprehensive of how it would turn out.

The only down side I have noticed so far is that when I pulled the bottom out it caused the front of the fender to angle up slightly so the side marker light and body line above it run uphill front to back. I can "fix" the body line with some hammer and dolly work and some body filler but the side marker would have to be cut out and repositioned. The fenders were not the greatest to start with, so a good practice set. If I don't like them I'll try again.

Thanks again for the props.

Dave

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen

HEY 83RDRACR NICE JOB MAN ! I have plans to do a widebody and flares in the future. My plans for modificating the flares are similar. I think that you are going about it in the best way possible for keeping it metal. I still have not decided if I am just going to make a complete fiberglass fender or use metal. Again outstanding job so far keep up the great work.

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen

I'm also planning on quite a few body mods, they'll be done in metal first but as I can. .. I'll use the metal panels to make molds & will replicate them in carbon fiber.

Front and rear fender mods look great! Keeps most of the stock appearance. Also love the splitter. What material did you use for the splitter and some pics of the underneath supports would be nice.

Again, great work.

had an idea, eyeballing the front fenders look to be the same shape as the rears. I figured, why not cut some fenders and try to graft those arches on the rear. Here's a quicky mockup. So far so good.

The flare will need to come up higher, just like the original arch.

Thank you very much guys. The splitter is 68 x32 it goes all the way to the front tires and is slotted for the air dam underneath. 1/2 inch thick foam .. Then 2 layers of fiberglass.. Then 3 layers of 2x2 twill carbon fiber. It is removable and bolts up from the bottom. Also has supports that will be going in up front and there are some off of the core support. I have made a rear diffuser as well out of aluminum. Currently the splitter is not in production yet but we are working on it if we get enough buyers. They will go for roughly 900 to 1000. The production model will be all carbon fiber made in a mold instead of by hand like mine, and will most likely weigh less that 5 lb

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen

Some yes... I have not got it onto a track yet so it's hard to say.. But I think it's working. But the diffuser, plus r888 and the spoiler .. The rear end is extremely planted. I'm sure every part is putting in some work.. Rear track width, rear shocks, tires, diffuser, spoiler .... But all it all ... So far it's a corner carving monster lol

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen

Morrow, the car looks absolutely KILLER! The fender flares, spoiler and diffuser all mesh together very well. Great color choice as well. The car looks aggressive but in a subtle way, not garish and over the top.

With all the body and suspension mods I and many others would be interested in some performance/track info.

Again, GREAT JOB!!!!

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen

Most will spot the diffusor, hood vents, and rear spoiler. But I think only one of us would notice the fender and 1/4 flares.

It's funny how most people don't spot the fenders.. The car is 3 inches wider on each side . Suspension and all
