Re: Fender Flares on a third gen
I am sure I am wrong but you might just have to be the first. Those cars with big flares like that look like Salt Flat cars.
One of my favorite cars of all time was a 69 Camaro around where I grew up with a wide body kit or something on it. We rarely ever saw it but when we did you knew that car a mile away. It was almost as if they widened the body 2" all the way around and lowered it by 3". Weird but so cool!!!!
Now back to your fender flares - Custom touches can go south quickly. You can spend so much time and effort making them that you lose interest. You will have to make both side identical and strong.
Don't let anyone discourage you if this is what you want. George Barris had and still has critics. Now, for the flip side - I see a lot of cars in the Junk Yard that someone tried to customize!

The aftermarket Wide Body Kit comes to mind.

I am going to do this also since my jongbloed wheels won't fit otherwise. Have a set of spare front fenders so I'm gonna start there

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen
I have liked the widebody look, and the fender flares are growing on me. I actually prefer the bolt on look compared to the molded look you first posted.
I'm sure you all have seen this car... the disputed original for the Transformers Bumblebee... Amir's Vengance

(stole from post comparing the two)
I'm sure its gonna take many attempts to get it right... see right in above pic, and wrong on bumblebee, but I'm watching this for sure. Good luck man!

I always thought fender flares would look sweet. Especially with the right wheel/tire combo and stance to top it off.
Good look on your project!

common mistake, especially on vettes w/ L88 flares. The rears hanging way too low.

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen
That car is one of my favorites of all time. I think your results are going to come out pretty good. The angle of the flare makes a big difference in looks. I would honestly try a little more shallow angle than the first picture and make it more like the picture I quoted.
Either way though it's going to look very unique and aggressive. Both good things.

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen
no one sells bolt on flares for third gens. thats why i am making them. i am doing bolt on because you can not fiberglass to metal...well you can but over time it will crack and separate from the metal from heating and cooling.

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen
I think you have a good idea here. Personally I think you're going a bit big but that's just my taste.
My flares are not as big as what you're doing but here are some pics of what I've bean doing, even my GFX are fiberglass so I could mold everything together.

A big problem is that on camaros the wheel wells are not round but sort of flattened, that's going to make it a lot harder to make it look right

Re: Fender Flares on a third gen
Look at the wheel arches, the firebird are shaped almost exactly like the tire, the camaro on the ohter hand is not... maybe a lowered car will show it better:

You guys do know that GM offered flares on firebirds shipped to japan right? I have never seen the camaro type. The firebird ones are a little like Corvette Grand Sport flares and IMO pretty hideous but would make a nice starting pont
