Tech / General EngineIs your car making a strange sound or won't start? Thinking of adding power with a new combination? Need other technical information or engine specific advice? Don't see another board for your problem? Post it here!
I'm in the process of getting my LG4 back to original spec having got the original carb back from the previous owner which I will have rebuilt and a new CCV whih arrived last week. New Zealand Post did manage to lose the new purge solenoid though
But what are these plugs all about? Can't see where they're supposed to connect to for thr life of me. Are they related to emissions or options the car doesn't have? Anyone know?
And, I can't see what color the wires are. Seeing the connector isn't real valuable if you can't see the wires. All I can tell is, it's a 2-cavity Weatherpak, which in those years, were used exclusively for ECM-related things.
But, based on where it is, probably goes to the AIR diverter valve.
Can't comment on what options the car does or doesn't have.
Car has headers so no EFE and no diverter valve but I'll double check that.
It's always run rich with a smoky start up that clears up eventually. My concern is something is telling the computer to richen the mixture (though I don't know if any of the smog gear is ECM controlled). This is why I figured on rebuilding and reinstalling the original carb and CCV and associated lines minus EFE and this diverter valve if thats whats those plugs are for. I also have a new EGR.
Yes the diverter valve went sort of behind and below the alternator. The fact that it's missing is why the alt belt is slightly misaligned. You can put a washer behind it to space it back out right again.
The grey plug also went to it. If memory serves, one is the vent-to-atmosphere control (the actual "diversion" function) and the other switched between delivering the fresh air to the manifolds or to the cat.
The soot/rich thing when cold may be as simple as, the choke vac break pulloff not being properly adjusted.
