Switching (mostly) stock 89 GTA to Holley HP

I have a friend that might be doing some work for me on my 89 T/A GTA 5.7.

I am thinking of switching from stock system to HP EFI Stealth Ram (https://www.holley.com/products/fuel.../parts/550-820) , using my current intake and plentum.

I have the new rockies VATS bypass installed due to issues starting the car. (https://newrockiesinc.zendesk.com/hc...c-Firebird-GTA)

Since its a "newer" model, my friend has concerns about what systems (cruise control, speedometer, or anything else) might be adversely effected as he is used to working on older cars so he is worried about something not working including the security bypass system and any other gauges or whatnot.

I am already running with AIR and EGR disabled.

Jeez that was an expensive bypass module. I've see that guys web site. Borders on scamming. You can get the same VATS bypass module on eBay for $15. It's just a square wave generator.

Your factory TPI is tunable so there really is no need to drop thousands on the Holley HP unless you are doing some really radical stuff like going to an LS or plan on running different engines from time to time. Don't spend that kind of money - especially if you are keeping the stock intake, plenum, and runners. They are limited to around 350 HP without modifications.

For $400 you can get everything you need from Moates.net to tune the car or have someone local to you tune it. The Holley is way, way, way overkill. Much like that scammer's VATS module you paid 20x too much for.

Re: Switching (mostly) stock 89 GTA to Holley HP

I wish I could find someone local who is any good with the current system. Been trying since I drove the car home 2 years ago.

None of the places I have been to even mentioned tuning it or that it had to be done, I had to come to that conclusion myself and sent my chip off to some guy on the internet to have it tuned.

I have been to 5 different local places, the closest I have been to a place that knows what they are doing with it was "The Vette Shop" (http://corvetterestorationpa.com/) who are expensive specialists that also didn't seem that interested in tuning it and suggested replacing the system also (not trying to say they are right or wrong, just saying what they said).

1st place (http://www.austinsautoservice.com/) Is my normal garage that ripped my wallet a new one to replace the engine (I wont even disclose how much that cost me, too embarrassing)

2nd place was a guy recommended from a friend on facebook who put a 1/2 effort into getting it to run right, but seemed more interested in replaceing the whole system with carb.

3rd place Uselessly replaced my ECM (https://www.yelp.com/biz/m-and-w-automotive-bethlehem)

4th place ( http://repairpal.com/ikes-shell ) found an actual issue with the wires going to the ecm (which was good) but also suggested I buy these ridiculously expensive fuel injectors that didn't even fit right (which of course I did because... stupid) .

5th place was the Vette Shop, which did actually successfully fix some nagging error codes, but suggested changing the injection system... for about 4k of course.

After the codes were cleared, I got one final tune over the internet and things were running "ok" until I noticed some smoke, which was the fuel injectors that didn't fit right spitting gas out. Took it to my normal garage (#1) and was first told it was a cracked injector, then was told they don't fit right, yet they had no solution for this and just buttoned it back up like that. So I had to post on these forums for someone to point out that the injectors I had needed an adapter. I ordered some extras with the adapters already on since they seemed about the same as the ones I had (22.3/hr vs 22.75/hr) so my normal place put them in and they don't leak anymore, but now the car runs like ****.

I would absolutely love to find someone local that knows what they are doing.

On a side note, I did get that new rockies box from ebay for $100, so I only overpaid by 10x

Send a PM to member "Tuned Performance".

https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/member.php?u=138103

He can dial you in with some datalogging, etc. Might take a few iterations but from what I've seen he knows what he's doing with the $6E PROMS.

Well that's cool. Thank you.

Also, anyone closer out there? 4.5 hours is still a pretty good hike, but still doable if necessary.
