Hello. So i'm from Ottawa. Bought an 85 trans am that I'm restoring. Just tired of paying extra for parts from the states. Want to re-do the suspension. Already bought shocks and springs but looking to completely upgrade the rest. Anybody aware of dealers around that would sell the performance parts needed?? Thank you
Hey Matt, I'm actually out in Montreal. Welcome to the board!
Honestly, it depends on what type you're looking to buy. If you're looking for OEM+, rock auto can't be beat. They also ship to canada for a good price (usually). IF you're looking for a canadian distributor of BMR, UMI or Heidt's stuff for example, I'm not aware of many options at the moment this side of the border that i could actually recommend. Maybe someone else can chime in on this?
Hey, welcome to the board!
I'm also in Ottawa and most always get performance parts shipped to the border at MyUSAddress. It's less than an hour away and you'll save a lot on shipping.
For the suspension, if you go with urethan bushings, your ride will get pretty harsh.
I redid mine with stock parts from Rock Auto (bushings/ball joints etc, haven't done shocks yet). The Moog rubber bushings were the exact same as my original IROC ones.. they must have been the original suppler to GM. Even the cavity numbers looked the same.
Hi Matt!!
I'm O-Town too!!
I agree with 6speed, running to the boarder is cheap and it is close. A lot of US companies to buy from. If your deadset on CND companies, try MOPAC, they are western CND but will ship anyway you want. I have used them before, they even beat Summit on some prices with the exchange. They also shipped greyhound, so it was dirt cheap shipping.
Hey boys and girls new to 3rd gen from the Tdot but long time 3rd gen owner since I was 18. I've owned my 85 L69 for 21 years now and after 15 years of slumber she's coming out to play before this season is over. Its all original except the engine (70 LT1 .30 over, 64cc double humps 2.02/1.60 with work done, .535 lift cam. 10.5:1 compression 4 bolt main steel crank yada yada yada....and the Hvac system is gone too. Dumb teenager stuff we do to go fast I dont have the OE engine or the hvac any longer lol
Well I'm in the process of refreshing the motor, new gaskets seals, etc...theres only about 5000kms on my build before I stored it but I'm really in the market for full suspension to replace the dated and worn components that are 30 plus years old now.
next year I may look at LS swaps been doing tons of research on this forum for my needs and thought it was time to join so Hi, hello and glad to be hear.
Just to show how long I've been out of the scene, when I stored my car everyone used to talk about "The Heartbeat of America" lol what do they say now about Chevy? lol
I totally agree that new owners seem to popping up all over the place, I got my thirdgen in mid 2014 but she's been of the road for nearly 3 years while I worked on little bits at a time, getting the right parts in Canada, can be an impossible dream and takes lots of time/effort and lots of patience lol glad to see I'm not alone.
Welcome Matt does seem to be a lot of us newbies. I have been pricing engine stuff and summit racing pricing seems to be better than performance improvements. It is great to see life in these 3rd Gens I feel like a kid again
Gee
