It's showing an AC Delco PF1218 (a 5 inch long filter) installed on his '92 Camaro with a 305. As you can see in the image, there's a good 4 inches between the bottom of the filter, and the bottom of the oil pan, which means there is room for a filter of 9 inches long without any ground clearance issues.
The AC Delco PF932, and multiple other equivalents which are around 8 to 9 inches, should therefore be able to fit without problem.
Does anyone have any reasons as to why one shouldn't run this 2 quart filter on a Camaro? It is the same thread size, gasket size, and everything, as the PF454 and PF1218, just longer.
I have been using the longer truck filter since the original PF25 was replaced by the PF454. I believe it is the PF1218, which is about the same size as the old PF25.
2 reasons: one, I blew up an L69 the first time I tried the long filter. Added extra oil and the engine was strong. Yeah, I know.
Second, I have multiple vehicles that fit, or require clearance for, a PF3980 filter. So I make it easier to shop for one filter, instead of a few, by changing the adapter.
No one as mentioned the benefit if the additional quart of oil added with the long (2-qt) filter. For me that additional quart with out adding a larger oil pan is major for me.

I would say the benefit of that qt. is questionable.
There's no cooling added. Given the choice between the long filter and a cooler, I'll take the cooler.
The short filter has plenty of surface area for filtration, unless you're driving through dust storms.
Assuming someone has an engine in good condition, and maintains it well, the big filter isn't going to help a thing.
It may not help any, but it surely doesn't hurt I would think. I've also been using the longer filters for years. Recently found out the LS motors are the same way. Was at the parts store a few weeks ago getting oil and filters for the suburban and the wife's avalanche. Suburban has a 6.0 and the avalanche has the 5.3. Dude brought out 2 different filters. The 6.0 filter is longer. Just got 2 for that motor. Since both trucks are high mileage (suburban 400k, avalanche 200k) and use about a quart between oil changes, I look at it as I have an extra half quart when the low oil level light comes on

Not sure I agree with that logic. Total system volume has increased true, but oil depth in the bottom of the pan and in relation to the oil pickup has remained the same.

I'm with you on this. Extra oil somewhere else doesn't change the depth of the oil pan, height of the oil pickup, or height of the oil level sensor.
Not sure about other brands, but the longer filter (KNN-3002) has an anti-drainback valve in it whereas the normal length (KNN-2002) does not.
Which is useless when the oil filter is vertical. This would only be helpful if using a remote oil filter location and the filter is horizontally oriented (or upside down, but who would do that? )

That sounds right..
The main reason I like the larger filter is , lets say you have 6 qt. of oil in your car rather than 5 .That means you are filtering 6 qt. of oil during rotation of the oil through the system.
That's the hole point of the larger filter. To give you the extra qt.

I use Fram Extra Guard filters and a PH30 PN. Does anyone know if they make or use the larger filter. If you do do you know the PN? I have been wanting to use the larger filter also.

1. Not a "2-quart" filter.
2. No reason you can't run it. I install the taller filter whenever I don't have clearance issues. It's been done for decades. Won't hurt a thing. I also install the "long" 5" 1049 NAPA filter on some AMC, old Buicks and old Cadillacs, Intercoursibles, Olds, Pontiacs, and Rutebagas, if there's clearance. There often isn't clearance on newer Buicks, and I don't see a lot of AMCs, Internationals, or Studebakers.
3. Does not provide "better" filtering. Goes longer before getting plugged/restricted. The shorter filters probably provide some cost-savings to GM when installed by the millions--shorter, less-expensive filter to make, and you don't need the extra half-a-quart of oil to fill like you do with the taller filter.

Provide a part number for your "2-quart" "Truck" filter. Does it REALLY hold 2 quarts?
As said, having more oil in the filter doesn't help the engine much. There's a little more surface area to radiate heat, and the oil filter element will go longer without plugging...but that's of little concern to us since folks tend to over-change the oil and filter. Sixty+ years ago, some folks only changed the filter every other oil change, and of course the engines created more sludge and ingested more dirt via gravel roads and the "screen" on the crankcase ventilation system back then anyway.
I think these people's heads will explode if you are actually talking about the Wix/NAPA 51794/1794 genuine medium-duty TRUCK filter. (Nearly 8" tall, over 2 1/2 inches taller than the "tall" filter these guys are talking about.) They're made by all the usual competing companies as well.
I'm fairly sure there's a still-taller filter that will screw right onto a typical Chevy V-8 oil filter adapter, but I can't find a part number. I haven't seen one in thirty years, so my memory may be fuzzy, but I remember thinking it was a foot long or more.

Im the 2nd owner, 135k on L98, been using cheap off brand oil and filters since the 1st oil change back in 1991 (im friends with the OG owner). runs great, 150psi compression in all cylinders, plenty of power to smoke the tires, did intake gasket last weekend, still looked super duper in there.. change your oil/filter regularly
, dont fall for the hype.
