Is this the original engine on this 89 gta

Hello guys thanks for viewing my post and I hope I put it in the right place

My questions are if the engine belongs to a 89 firebird gta. IV done research on the vehicle but all the 350 tpi engines I see online and on videos look a little different compared to the one on this bird and well as u can see it looks like the owner has did his own way of work on the cooling system as well as adding some accel racing parts to it .well any ways the owner is selling it to me and i really would like to know if this motor is of a newer firebird b/c IV seen this motor on the 95 formula and up . I do my own mechanic work and I live in Texas so the car has to pass emission before its able to ride on the road and I hate to buy it and not be able to pass emission do to a different motor and well this car does need a lot of work to it

Thank u guys for your time

It's been modified. What does that MAF say on the sticker? What ECM is it running? Accessories and belt drive have been modified. Alternator is where the A.C. once lived.

There's some interesting things going on there. Give us details and we can possibly tell you what you have.

*edit* That's an LT1 swap by all appearances.

Looks like a LT1 out of a B-car, hopefully it is the 350 LT1 and not the 265 L99.

Re: Is this the original engine on this 89 gta

Thanks guys for the replyes

I can't get a picture of the computer or of the mass air flow due to being about 20 miles away from the bird and the owner that's going to sell it to me clams he don't kno about cars so its not help full there to get pictures .
owner clams the engine is the original one it came with it. so I'm pretty sure he is as clues as I am . but I did some more investigation on it and I believe the motor is off a 96 impala ss. when I get him to agree on a price in going to pick her up and do what i can to fix her wings and put her back on the street. I just hope its the lt1 not the l99 . I would really like to keep her but lets see what happens . she needs a whole new cooling system, radator, pump , thermostat , etc . a complet tune up . aswell as wiring done to here do the the owner having some one in stall new gagues that don't work so the whole dash board don't work at all .

I have turn her on and drove it around and got the feel of it she gots alot of potential and that bird is loud.

IV talked to a friend of mine that does state inspections and he said that I will not get tested for emission do to the car being older than 25 years. but I must have a smug pump do to the bird having it on the orginal engine so I hope he helps me out to pass her.

Thanks guys ill keep all posted.

Texas, black car, and no AC. Ouch. Can't help much otherwise, you do need to get it cheap. For the work it needs the guy should just give it to you.

I would say between free and $500 is the right price for that mess - depending on how well it drives and how many miles are one it. Anything that's been modified like that and has zero documentation is sure to be a massive headache trying to unravel what and how things were done to accomplish the engine swap. How did it land in the hands of someone that now believes it's stock? That's a LOT of work to go through and then abandon it to someone that has no clue what's been done. Other than running, that's about the condition of my '86 TA parts car - which I paid $300 and towing for. With documented 350 rebuild/swap with 20k on it. $250 of it I gave for the documented 20k mile 350 from a reputable local performance shop. The rest of the car was just gravy. Harvested probably $1000 worth of parts from it already.

Re: Is this the original engine on this 89 gta

I am going to make a suggestion here. Since you did not know that to be an LT1, this is not the car for you.

As mentioned above, there are a lot of questions to ask about the swap and if he is clueless, so will you be. It will break and when you go to the store to get a part for a 96 LT1 in an 89 Firebird, well you better know what you need.

We can already see the A/C doesn't work and was hacked instead of removed properly. I can see what they did to the intake track and yea... this looks pretty hacked. I know TPIs, I know LT1s... been deep in both 3rd and 4th Gens. That being said, I would run away from this unless I was getting it under $1000.
