So just yesterday I picked up a 1986 Iroc Z! It started and ran fine yesterday then today I tried to start it after checking fuses and noticed an orange wire that is completely off after pulling the fuse box down. Guessing that it's the culprit but am not sure where it goes. Help is much needed! Also have a plug with an orange wire that got disconnected when I pulled it down.
Ir runs with a pink wire with a black stripe another orange wire and a white wire. The end of the orange wire. Traced it going back to the left of the steering column if you're laying under it.

Reason: More details
Alright man I just checked under my dash, the only orange wires that size that run into my fuse box go to LID and the thermal breaker for the power windows, BUT an orange wire that size DOES run out of a wire loom by the fuse box and into a black plastic plug in connector on the wall of the car (if you're facing the steering wheel it's to your left near the fuse box.) I'm not sure what it controls but might be where it popped out of and controls something important? Best of luck
Just FYI the connector is RIGHT above where the grey plastic trim piece with the carpet glued to it ends (might not be grey cuz it matches ur interior and mine's grey )
Edit-somebody ziptied those wires together, so it doesn't look the same as my car. Purple and black wires go to important things like ENG CTRL, Fuel Injection and GAUGES, orange looks like it goes to less important things. What happens when u try to start the car? Do you think u can grab a pic of the back of your fuse box? Thanks
Back of the fuse box Mystery plug sure it has a place but don't know where Another fuse box pic Board behind the fuse box This is suspicious not sure what was on here.

You obviously have some aftermarket electrical items installed in your car (gauges, alarm, remote starter, stereo, etc).
What are they?
My bet is that orange wire needs to have +12 volts on it. But before you try doing that, what is not working that was before?
That orange wire looks like it had a poorly done crimped spade connector on it, and it fell off at some point. If so, it could have been plugged into the empty red tap-in connector on the pink wire.
Also check your door pin switch. That orange wire might have been connected there.

My guess is that there is a starter kill relay hidden somewhere, and that disconnected orange wire goes directly to it. Trace it further.
Again, I bet that there is a hidden (to you) starter kill relay in there.
And the contacts of the relay are interrupting power in that purple wire.
I bet that the orange wire connects to +12 volts, going to the relay's coil.
If you do decide to apply +12v to that orange wire, make the car as quiet as possible (pull the buzzer out, turn blower fan off, etc) and if there are no big sparks, then you should hear the click of the relay and you should be able to follow the clicking sound to its location.
So i've got a new problem not related to my last the reverse lights turn on and off whenever they feel like it when the car is running. What could be the cause of that?
