It will be interesting to see what kind of money this one brings. Damage is much worse on this car, cowl is back pretty hard, door pushed back into the quarter panel. Ouch!

Wow. Seems like they are getting wrecked more frequently since I started following them in 2009. One of the last ones produced too.

If he had an ageed value of 39k, thats what he gets.

 

My IROC-Z has an agreed value of $34k. So, I don't see this one out of line, for what it is.

I recall reading a while back that the ACV iaai uses is a number they come up with using sources like KBB or NADA or some other independent appraisal. I don't believe that info comes directly from the car owners actually policy. While the ACV on that TTA is up there, we really don't have a clue what the insurance company paid out from the listing. Not saying it wasn't insured for 39K, it very well could have been, but it would probably be more of a coincidence unless they use the exact same source & its up to date.

On the other hand I have often wondered where the repair cost estimate comes from. very Hard to believe iaai has an appraiser doing that & I don't think its just a guess. I'll see if I can find out more about that.

 

That it is! Did you see the door gaps are gone & the quarter is buckled on the right side? Hope the driver is ok.

Can a T5 trans be mated to the 3.8 v6?

I know the stock one would not hold up, I have an Astro A-5...

I believe PAS actually did that with a 5 speed on one of their protos...don't hold me to that. The thing went in excess of 170mph

 

Ya, I remember reading about that somewhere aswell. I could have sworn it was a black car or some dark color ??

3.8l v6 4th gens ran a t5 trans.

 

It was a 6spd..

When PAS installed a ZF 6-speed manual transmission into one of the cars, they were able to reach 181 mph

 

We're talking about the buick Turbo 3.8 V6 with manual trans..

Not the regular 3800 series V6 in the 4th gens.

I'd feel worse if all of the TTAs didnt look like exactly the same car, and if the vast majority weren't sitting in storage like this one was until someone took it out and smashed it.

At least with the front end collisions they can replace everything frame and all.. it’s not even horrifyingly expensive if the motor is ok..

Some guy pulled right out in front of my 87 IROC in 1996 on a 45mph Road.. Locked up my breaks and had to go right into him.. there were cars coming the other way so I couldn’t swerve either way.. he pulled right into two lanes of oncoming traffic and stopped in the middle of the road.. needless to say my front end looked similar to that..

The shop I worked for fixed it and put a whole new front clip on.. motor was fine.. re-sprayed the whole car and it looked and drove perfect.. you’d never have known.. every panel lined up perfect

It wouldn’t be “cheap”, but you could save the car and it would be worth it.. I bet the interior is mint..

 

If the doors are pushed back, that’s not good..

When my 87 got rear ended in 2002 I started wondering if the damn car was invisible..

This collision looks like the car got away from the driver and hit something solid.. tree, Boulder, etc.. wonder if it was original tires.. have to be careful with those old tires..

If it wasn't for the turbo it would be dang near unrecognizable. HAd it be inside of a garage or building that was onfire at the same time. That's crazy hot.

Yup! Even "Misfit Garage" has Fire Extinguishers, water, and wet rags on hand when starting them!
Really sad.

 

Yep. Safety first! Have an extinguisher in each car and 3 or 4 in different areas of the garage. And an old school water extinguisher.

Reminds me of when Sam Kinison passed away when a truck hit his TTA.

 

What's there to sell? I bet the VIN isn't even good!

 

I knew another TTA which caught fire. It was extinguished and "saved", but this was back in the mid-90s, so no telling where the car is now.

 

Maybe The turbocharger Only thing that can take those temps.

 

I don't even see that. It's not even worth crushing and recycling. Honestly, it just needs to be buried somewhere and returned to the Earth. What a shame.
