Identifying Front Mudguard GM vs Repro
I am in the process of getting a pair of hopefully genuine GM TransAm front fenders online and I need to make sure that the ones I am getting are GM genuine by looking at pictures. Mine are reproductions and they are as crappy as it gets.
Can someone help me out urgently on this? Don’t want to lose them!!

Re: Identifying Front Mudguard GM vs Repro
The fenders(mudguards as you say) if genuine GM part will have the P/N's stamped on the upper lip of each fender.LF P/N=12505345,R/F P/N= 12505344
These are for the GTA Fenders not the Trans Am's

Thanks mantaguy. As the ones I found are Firebird fenders without vents (have to drill gfx holes) can you let me know the p/n for these?

Re: Identifying Front Mudguard GM vs Repro
My car is an 88 GTA. The thing is that I cannot manage to find a genuine fender. All I can find are all reproduction like the ones that I have. So I now managed to find a pair of 'supposedtly' used Genuine fender from a Firebird which do not have the Vents. All I need to do is drill the holes for the GFX as the GTA also does not use vents.

Your gonna have to drill all your GFX Holes, just look for the stamped P/N's on the top of the fender, if their not there they are reproductions.

Re: Identifying Front Mudguard GM vs Repro
Using the part numbers that you gave me on the net only pops up reproduction ones. Is it possible these are so hard to find? The ones that I have, for the drivers side, the horizontal middle line doesnt match the door. The top line to the hood is bowed outwards and the front part where the bumper is fixed seems to be short as the headlamp lid is 1/4" different from the passenger side.
The door is perfectly aligned to the rear and to the bottom. And the fender sites 99% flush with the door so its not the pinch weld issue.
Why are these cars so difficult to align? I assembled far cheaper cars and the alignment is nowhere near as painful as these.

Any chance you have a picture of these stampings? Doesnt need to be the ones that I am looking for but at least I send the pictures to the guy I am purchasing them from so that he will know what to look for.
Re: Identifying Front Mudguard GM vs Repro
NOS body parts are hard to come by. Best bet is salvaged originals. If you do find NOS you'll know by the price that'll be about 600% of the aftermarket repros from Thailand.

The ones I might have found should be originals. Unfortunately I cannot go myself to a junk yard here in Malta as 3rd gens wont be in there
I just want to make sure the ones I am buying are originals. NOS are difficult (an expensive) to come by...

Re: Identifying Front Mudguard GM vs Repro
Guys. I got some more information on the fenders. From the date tags it looks like one side is from an 83 car and the other is from a 90 car. From the photos I couldnt read all the punched numbers but these are what I could manage to read:
10017343 (9A 20 83)
100146?1 (B 16-83)
10017344 (A? 27 90)
1017311? (10B 16 90)
What do you guys think? Would the fact that they are punched mean they are genuine? Or even the aftermarket ones would have them?

only originals should have the numbers stamped. Repro fenders generally do not have any numbers stamped in to them

Looks good then. These numbers are very similar to Mantaguy's attached photos so I guess they should be original GM. See thumbnails of the actual photos.
