My yellow '85's twin!

Except one month newer and 10K miles more.

The owner claims 4 wheel discs. This car was built 6/85 and during the reported posi shortage.

I've asked for the SPID to confirm that. I'm also expecting a 3.42 gear, just like every other '85 LB9 IROC, I've seen.

We'll see.

Nice car! Probably more than I'm looking to put out right now, but wonder what the reserve is?

Always liked yellow IROC's. Miles look accurate based on pics. No one did any favors for this girl in up keep. To bad. Probably would come nice with a weekend or two of detailing & some TLC.

I wish the factory yellow was a bit bolder. It's got that subdued pasty tone that just doesn't hit the mark. Interesting to see though.

Since the '85s are single stage, they need to be fed oils in order to come to life, especially if the paint hasn't been maintained. Mine was pasty like that when I got it, but a few applications of Megs #7 left on overnight, improved the depth of the color dramatically.

Day I got it:

Re: My yellow '85's twin!

Guess they didn’t have the body color door moldings yet in 85.. I think my white 85 Z28 has black moldings..

I don’t like the silver caps on the wheels.. I know they make silver ones now to fit those rims, but I remember on my 87 the black plastic fell off and they were silver underneath.. I had to get new caps from a Chevy dealer in town and they had them in stock back in 1995!

You’re yellow in that bottom photo looks better than all the ones I’ve seen.. I think that color looked worse if the paint oxidized and wasn’t maintained.. yours looks good Chazman!

Pretty cool car for sale and a rare color!

I think this is so key, especially for this colour. The lighter colours suffer more, but all colours need that TLC to make them pop be it a buff or other treatment and a proper wax IMO.

Re: My yellow '85's twin!

I appreciate you. I'm just not good at showing it. Please don't take anything too personally, half the time I'm just poking a little fun.

I remember all the Yellow Irocs I saw in the mid 90's were so faded they were white from the door molding up. Looked at one sad example one time, was a TPI car, but it had a Goodwrench 305 in it with the old LG4 style valve covers. I can't remember if I bothered to drive it, or just assumed that it'd be slower than slow. Lot of cars like that around back then, beyond saving in 1996-1998.

Re: My yellow '85's twin!

Just posted the SPID. 3.42 of course and 4 wheel discs with no posi. I guess the posi shortage started around April/May and went through the end of '85 production. BTW, G80 and J65 were bundled together in '85, until the shortage.

Re: My yellow '85's twin!

I've seen a PDF of the 85 internal GM order guide order guide pop up from time that shows G80 getting cancelled on 1/27/85. I remember the date cause it's my wife's birthday! I know I've never seen an 85 with G80 built later than Febuary or March.

I know! The peg leg with an L69 cammed LB9 and 3.42 gear makes 1st gear unusable at more than 40% throttle.

Hi Chaz, I too think this is the nicest yellow I have seen. I am amazed at the transformation from the color when you got it and after. You mentioned you left Meg#7 on overnight. What is the benefit from that.

A mild TLC would have this car looking good!

Built one month after mine, but luckily I have the G80.

Thanks Louis. It lets the single stage paint soak up the oil it's starving for. I've done this on a few cars. But it must be porous single stage NOT non porous clearcoat/basecoat.

Pour yourself a Dr. Pepper and read these threads. This is the technique.

The eBay seller is a flipper of sorts. I looked at another car he had, and the car was being sold on an "open title" without assignment to him. Just mentioning that, in case it matters.

Motown's car is one of the lucky ones to get the G80 posi. Of the 21 1985 1C5 "California" IROCs I've located and documented by Vin# none have had the G80. They were all made during the third week of April 1985. Of these cars 6 were stolen or totaled so those that I know of that still exist is 15 cars. Still looking for others to document.

Could this have anything to do with assembly plants? The 1C5 cars were built in CA and mine was built in Ohio. Maybe Norwood had G80 stock into May?

Okay, mine's a Van Nuys car. Maybe Norwood didn't have a shortage?

Thanks for sharing those links, that's some great info. I am glad I read both, as the second answered questions I had while reading the first link regarding clay bars.

Is it a 10k car? If I was gonna pay that much just to get a yellow car it'd have to be an 87 L98. But that's just me

For $10k there are better 3rd gens available. Honestly what made this one interesting was the color.

Oops, don't be offended Drew, forgot the firebird was still available in yellow in 92. I'd pay that for that car to. But in this case we're talking about an IROC
