I drove my Camaro to work today to give it a good shake down from being parked for a while. I got the usual comments: nice car, it's a classic, when are you going to paint it, did you just get it, etc. Then the one guy, the biggest, the baddest in the yard said, those wheels don't suit your car (the Ronal R15's I bought new way back when.
I was like, "Are you kidding me?! These wheels suit these cars very well." Luckily, he made a comment in front of his other butch buds which I used against him. He said, "Put the original wheels back on the car. Although I do like all that meat on your rear."
Before realizing how he set himself up, I responded in kind "Thank you for noticing my beefy rear." He turned so red and just walked away.
I think I have posted these before, but I just went out and took some more. And yes, I love my license plate frame. Btw, I am also aware that the left tail pipe is off a bit. A project for the future.
They look great! And technically, R15's did come on production thirdgens (firehawks only), so obviously both GM and SLP thought they looked good enough to put on the baddest piece of American muscle they had made in decades. Up his!
I like those wheels..was always a fan of ROH too..
Usually any wheel that comes stock on a GM car looks pretty good on a third gen.. I even like the 5th gen Camaro wheels and Corvette wheels on some cars..
I’m not a fan of the huge rims though.. sorry to offend.. but I’m offended
It's a jealousy thing I think. My family is on a very tight budget and my son just turned 16. I put a Z71 together for him on an extremely tight budget, 3k to be exact and that's including replacing the blown 5.3. A senior keeps picking on him telling him his truck is junk and his tires are cheap. My boy is really wanting to "school" this upper class man as well. I'm about ready to let him even though I know better. Just tired of seeing my son upset over some punk talking smack about his pride and joy. Here's a pic of my son's junk truck.
Thank you. And I want to add that on my way home from work, some dude in a brand new Dodge Challenger tried to race me and he even took off when I was just minding my own business. No, I wasn't going to race a pot smoking early 20's jerk when I know my car with all the mod's is barely breaking 210 hp or so o his 300 plus.
Ronal R15 is one of the best looking wheels ever put on a thirdgen, including the high-dollar aftermarket wheels. They look even better when painted correctly.
I just wish they clear bigger brakes so I could have a set too.

Wow! Junk truck? Id be proud to drive it myself very nice truck!
No matter our age, just like when we was in high school there will always be that guy that knows what wheels should go on our car or that guy that no matter how hard you work on your ride his will always be bigger better faster etc. The sad thing in my son's case is he is proud for all of his friends trucks no matter if it is a completely stock truck or a highly modified. I guess folks will always want to try and start a pissing contest.

Haters gonna hate. Personally, I love a gfx-less thirdgen with some steamrollers.

He needs to take it as a compliment. Jealous people don't talk smack about something they are not jealous about.

How much bigger than 13" brakes do you want to go?
Technically, the Firehawk is not a GM car - it is an SLP creation using the firebird as the base. No different than Yenko or Baldwin cars from over 40 years ago.
GM did roll out the 17" wheels on the Corvette in 1989 - but did not stick them on f-bodies until the 4th gen cars. SLP did do a good thing by upgrading the rolling stock - then again for the price they were charging for the Firehawk, they really had to.
Unfortunately the Firehawk was so rare and not so advertised that even people who know f-bodies probably didn't know about them for years after SLP made them.

The Corvette did get a standard 17" wheel in 1989, but it is the same 17" standard wheel that came on the Z51, Z52, and 35th Anniversary edition (which was painted white.)
What brakes do you have? I thought the barrel on those wheels tapered so that even an LS1 brake won't fit. I have C6 Corvette brakes.
LS1 brakes fit in the R15, I think I can go another full inch on brakes, if anything the offset is the problem, like the GTA wheel, where you hit the back of the spokes
That is a problem with the pad mounting height. R15 wheels are similar in terms of rear of the wheel spokes to face of the caliper clearance, just like the GTA wheels - including the Hawks 17".

Didn't some of the third gen Firehawk's get the 13" Brembo's?
Also, What do you all think about me adding a red stipe on the wheels like the 1982 Z28 pace cars had? To go with the lower dual red stripe my car already came with. Yes or no? And please, "It's your car, do what you want with it." LOL

Tell your son this: Opinions are like a$$holes - everyone has one and they all stink.
If your son likes his truck, then that's all that matters.

I just saw a pic of one of those on here last week. I vote YES, do it.

That truck looks extremely nice, nothing wrong at all. I, and I think I can safely say, a lot on here looking at it, would happily drive it. And for a first car..... very nice!! Ask members on here about a lot of their first or early cars... this truck is very nice.
Make sure your son reads all these posts, adults tipping their hats to his ride.
Hey Buddy, so I don't see anything wrong with your son's truck. It looks like a typical high school or even a daily driver for one of us. So does this bully picking on your kid expect your son to drive into school with some GTR or a Viper? Give me a break. Send that bully here to So. Cal. where a car is a car to enjoy and he can take the bus to the hood to know what reality is.
